Small waves, low dunes and lots of seashells make this narrow, two-mile stretch of public beach popular with families. The beach runs between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown, and is called "Bend-in-the-Road Beach" on the Edgartown side.

This Oak Bluffs beach and surrounding area of colorful gingerbread Victorian houses have strong links to African-American heritage on Martha's Vineyard, dating back to the Revolutionary War. The beach was the setting for a teenage romance movie called "The Inkwell."

"Love this spot...it's blessedly quiet, with just the sounds of a nearby buoy and the ocean. A lovely place to watch the boats, ships and ferries go by. Also a great spot to catch a breeze on a hot day."
"This park is lined with a host of charming "gingerbread" cottages and at the center is the tabernacle, a very nice, vintage steel structure with stained glass in the large cupola roof. There is a well maintained wooden church next to it."
"I have been coming to the island for 20 years and my family has a cottage on the island (not in the campground though). The campground is a great place to visit and see some of the oldest cottages on the island. Seeing the campground during the day is great but there is one time of year to visit the..." campgrounds which is vasty better than others - Grand Illuminations. More commonly referred to as just "illuminations", this is a 1 night event at the end of the summer usually in 3rd Wednesday in August (August 14th 2013 this year) where all of the campground houses set up lanterns on their houses. There is usually a large band/orchestra in the center of the camground at the Tabernacle and the lighting of all of the lamps at once when the first lamp is lit in the tabernacle. There are usually hundreds if not thousands of lanterns and it is quite a sight to see. Really changes the experience of seeing the campground.
