Machias Attractions: What to do & Places to Visit in Machias
"After getting a few recommendations from locals to check out the Cutler Bold Coast Trails, we decided to give it a go. We drove from Roque Bluffs, and it was a nice drive through scenic meadows, bridges with beautiful streams, and overall great scenery. The parking lot had ample space, with 2 larg..."e areas to park. There were also trail maps, and bathrooms right in the lot.
The hike starts out walking through the woods, which is beautiful. After a little while, you see the trees start to thin in the distance, and then you get to the rocky coast, which was absolutely amazing. We saw seals in the water right below us, and if my wife wasn't scared of heights, I could have sat there right at the edge soaking in the views all day. We will absolutely go back here next time we are in the area, this was one of our favorite hikes, anywhere.

"My husband and I 'retreat" to Machias, Maine every other summer to rest, relax, and recreate. Our trip would not be complete without an outing or two with Sunrise Canoe and Kayak. The sea kayak tour of Machias Bay is especially fun--out with a group (beginners to advanced) with Rob as our guide. ..."Not only do we experience the joys of being on the water, but we also learn the history of the area, see wildlife (seals, ospreys, eagles), and have a break and snack at the petroglyphs (complete with a geology lesson!). Our last visit, we rented a kayak to paddle on one of the nearby lakes. Rob and Jen are the nicest people you will ever meet and this is a must-do activity.

"This was an amazingly scenic hike. I'm not sure why it is listed as being in Machias when it is actually in Cutler. I think this is one of the most beautiful areas in Maine and really offers a variety of gorgeous views. It's a long trip, and signage could be better. It is deceiving because it ta..."kes you much longer to do the coastal trail than the inland trail, and I remember thinking I was much further along than I actually was. I got a little bit turned around near the campsite areas also. There is plenty of white paint on the rocks to follow, luckily, but a few more signs wouldn't hurt. It's still definitely worth doing! I only uploaded three photos, but I have 91 photos from this trip and they are all gorgeous! If you go, start early because it is a long hike, but very enjoyable and well worth the trip.
