Maine Huts & Trails is Maine’s newest, year-round outdoor adventure destination. We’re located in the beautiful and wild, western mountains region of Maine. In time, our system of backcountry eco-lodges connected by people-powered trails will stretch nearly 200 miles from near the New Hampshire border to the Moosehead Lake region.

"Sugarloaf used to be "the" course to play due to the mountain setting, the double dog legged holes, shots over the river to the par three, and just an overall good challenge.. Number 11 par 3 was always a joy. That was before Belgrade Golf Club was built. Now you have to ask the question is is worth..." the extra miles if you only have one day to play? In addition, this course is more susceptible to winter damage as was the case last year.
Having said this, I would still drive the miles and play the course once a year, but clearly ask the condition of the greens. If you have to drive from southern Maine and can't stay over night you may find Belgrade a better overall value and probably in better shape on the average.
We played late summer and found the staff very friendly and helpful. We played with a Maine resident who knew each hole which was helpful especially one one particular hole that is up hill with traps all along the fairway. Plan on over four hours to play.

"The 1st Annual Pond Skimming competition was fun to watch. Skiers came down the slope and competed as to who could get the furthest distance across the pond. The crowd clapped wildly with each skier attempting to reach back onto land, on the opposite side of the small pond. Some skiers wore special ..."costumes which made it even better. The event was well organized with very little wait times between skiers. Can't wait to take it all in next year. The skiing was also excellent for spring skiing.
