We loved this park for the many hiking trails - woods, hills, and even a backwoods lake! Park at the visitor center and pick up a trail map in the open archway (bathrooms available there too). Trails can be accessed from the parking area, also from the upper parking area near the museum. After a morning of hiking, we drove up into the park and found a nice spot to have a picnic lunch, by Scenic Lake (no, not the same lake that we hiked to - this one is bigger.) After lunch, we drove out of the main part of the park and over to their wetland area...another nice walk there! There's lots more to this park than we were able to take in on this visit.

We spent a couple hours going through this museum centered on the life and travels of JJ Audubon. The information was thoughtfully laid out with lots of pictures of the times. There were also many Audubon prints on display. Some were HUGE!

My only negative is they need more seats in the exhibit areas. There are seats in the theater and by the gift shop.

While the normal price is quite reasonable ($5??), admission on Monday is FREE!

Even during the off-season, my wife and I had a great few days for recharging. Quiet relaxation to disconnect from our busy schedules and connect with each other. The restaurant is great for wine tasting with appetizers or for a nice romantic dinner. Highly recommend a visit for couples.

This paved 2.5-mile (5-mile round trip) walkway runs along (and well above) the Ohio River, extending from Downtown Henderson northward past three small city parks and some fine homes, ending in the sprawling Atkinson Park with its disc golf course, ballfields, sand volleyball court and other features. Aside from providing splendid view of the river and the Henderson railroad bridge, it provides an excellent opportunity for exercise and fresh air. There are multiple free parking areas along it, and those seeking a stroll can choose from a short, flat stretch to an extended walk with some hills. There are several doggy poop bag dispensers (and trash cans) and several benches for resting or taking in the view. Several restaurants in Downtown Henderson are located less than a block away, and there are several historical markers in the adjacent parks. It's used by walkers, joggers, dog-walkers and baby-stroller-pushers. Officially, bicycles are prohibited, but occasionally a biker uses it. There's a hospital along the way, and now and then an air-evac helicopter will land there across the street from the RiverWalk. Trains and barges can regularly be viewed from the RiverWalk. Locals tend to be friendly and often say a little hello or give a nod of greeting to fellow walkers. Portions are lighted at night as well, particularly downtown and between Sixth and 12th streets.

This place is such a hidden gem! Lots of seating areas both indoor and outdoor. Live music on the patio was great! Lots of board games inside too!

I get to Ellis Park about once every few years. I gets hot here since they race during the summer months. While wee enjoyed our experience here, we also think the track is in need of repair. We could see it in the ceilings needing a new coat of paint. My uinderstanding is they have new owners buying the place, so hopefully they will take care of some of these needs.

This hulking 1932-era truss bridge built for the former Louisville & Nashville Railroad serves as both a crucial Ohio River crossing for CSX Transportation as well as a backdrop for photographers, especially for shooting sunset photos. Railfans will appreciate that upwards of 40 freight trains cross it each day. Most are unit trains (coal trains, grain trains, intermodal container trains) but there are also more visually interesting mixed freight trains as well (watch for trains carrying chassis for Toyota vehicles assembled north at Princeton, Indiana). Occasionally a train carrying heavy military equipment such as tanks can be spotted. For most folks, it provides a visual element to spice up their photos of the river (sometimes, you can shoot a photo of a train crossing the bridge while a barge sails beneath it). Best of all, there are three small city parks adjacent to it with seating, picnic tables, playground equipment and free parking, so viewing the bridge is easy-peasy. During the summer, there is a free municipal water feature (think: variable fountains of water shooting up from the ground) nearby for little kids to frolic in; it also makes for nice photos. There's also a big new "I (heart) Henderson" feature suitable for shooting photos with the RR bridge in the background as well as several downtown restaurants within walking distance, including a pizza place with a patio providing views of the bridge. At nearby Redbanks Park, there are several historical markers including one that describes construction of the bridge and has a photo of both the existing bridge and its 1885-era predecessor. Rail buffs will like it; kids (or the kid in all of us) will like it, too.

For years, this site sat empty, a former gravel yard beside the Ohio River. But around 2000 it was reclaimed and today is a football field-sized lawn with benches, bench-style swings, walkways, picnic tables and, as of late 2023, a pair of dog parks. The municipal Red Banks Park bears Henderson's original, pioneer-era name. It provides excellent views of the river and a 1932-era railroad bridge that's still in use, and is a popular spot for taking sunset photos. The grassy lawn is used by kite-flyers, Frisbee-throwers and, occasionally, Renaissance combat cosplay enthusiasts. There are a series of historical markers that documents various river-related events in Henderson's history, including construction of the railroad bridge. It is situated along the Henderson Riverwalk, and its 16-space parking lot is used by many of the people who use the Riverwalk.

Not to be confused with the sprawling Audubon State Park a few miles away, this is a leafy, one-city-block-sized city park on a bluff above the Ohio River in Downtown Henderson. During the late 1810s, it was the site of a steam-powered lumber and grist mill operated by John James Audubon (who would later be famed as a painter of birds) and his brother-in-law. Financially unsuccessful, the mill broke Audubon and forced his departure from Henderson. Today, it mostly a passive park with some benches, picnic tables and historical markers that provides good views of the river and activity on the adjacent recreational boat ramp. But in mid-June and early August, it is the venue for the free W.C. Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival and the Bluegrass in the Park festivals, respectively, which draw thousands of music lovers each. There is on-street parallel parking adjacent to the park as well a parking lot at the adjacent Depot visitors' center and parking spaces on nearby streets. Several restaurants are located within a block, including some that provide carryout that can be enjoyed at Audubon Mill Park. It is also located along the Henderson Riverwalk.

Very friendly and great food. Stopped in for a quick bite while traveling. Loved all the old memorabilia on the wall. Nice little historic feel. Loved seeing a picture of Granddaddy and Uncle Don on the wall.
