What better way to take in the uniqueness of the beaches at Cape San Blas than by horseback? Our forgotten coast boasts being one of the only remaining vacation destinations in the country which allows our visitors to enjoy horseback riding on the beach. A relaxing ride next to the waves of the gulf is just another way to experience the laid back atmosphere of our area. We set our pace to the rhythm of the waves that wash ashore while taking it all in... the seashell showered beaches, colorful sunsets and on lucky days we even see happy dolphins playing! Also, there are plenty of photo opportunities during your ride.

"The sugar sand beach and bright warm water, with long isolated stretches of beach to stroll. Beautiful sunsets and a view of three planets in the clear black sky. Fishing from the shoreline (must have license, but not a hassle). Must use sunscreen at all times on the beach, or face the consequenc..."es. Great getaway.

"This is a penninsula/barrier island. No hotels, no tall buildings, lots and lots of local houses, townhomes to rent. Only 3 businesses. Two are small grocery store/beach shops and one is an icecream place Coneheads.
But if you like nature and relaxing this is the place to go. Bike/walkin..."g path the entire peninsula. St Joseph state park at the end of the peninsula. Multiple public beach accesses - and we often saw only 2-3 cars at each.
The water is crystal clear. Bay side and gulf side. Very very dog friendly. Which is why we went. We will make it an annual vacation.
Cell phones don't work out there - and often your cell will pick up central time. So bring a watch if you need to be somewhere. But really - your on vacation.

"wow wow wow
We stayed right outside of the park in the Barrier Dunes townhomes, and we visited the park several times. We biked in one day, there was very little traffic and no problems biking on their roads. We rode to the end, locked our bikes and walked out on the path through the dunes, ama..."zing. So few people on their beach.
Another day we kayaked. We had hoped to be able to make it to the end of the peninsula, but with a late start that was not possible. But the amazing clear shallow water, we saw lots of stingrays, fish, crabs, a starfish. The seagrass beds and sand flats make for awesome biodiversity. Lots of places to land on the beach and stop for a stretch or snack. Not much boat traffic. We launched from the picnic area. When we returned another kayaker with a sea kayak let us know that he leaves early and its an all day trip for him to make the tip.
we also drove through the park once, but its a short road and you really just need to get out...
