What travelers are saying
- Arty_momRochester Hills, MI2,060 contributionsBeautiful botanical garden. An impressive collection of plants from all over the world. we especially enjoyed the Japanese reflecting pool, the Chinese medicinal garden, and the plants from New Zealand.
A large area was closed due to maintenance along with several buildings closed, maybe for summer day camp? At $18/person, it was pricey. Just an fyi: many paths are not very handicap accessible, nor stroller friendly.Written August 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The overall style is classic, sometimes putting in some modern buildings.Written February 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JY_GlobetrotterCalgary, Canada1,505 contributionsWe went on a hot day so we had to skip out on the hiking trails and the botanical gardens but the fun things for kids is the antique Merry Go Round built in 1911 that still runs today and the Redwood Valley Railway Steam Train.
Both activities were quite affordable and I remember the steam train ride was only $4.00 per person and it lasted for over 10 minutes around a section of the park.Written August 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We stumbled across Tilden Little Farm and was told by our relatives to bring lettuce and celery for the animals. Our kids were young and a bit scared at first with the feeding (big cow) but in the end they loved the experience.
FYI, the produce goes quick.Written August 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The cool breezes from the Bay were most welcome, as were the splendid views of the Golden Gate and the Bay. The long dock was locked and closed; don't know why. Some parks along the Bay, and the Marina where you will find the sailboats.Written September 5, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas VOakland, CA16,858 contributionsIt's a good place for a show, but make sure you bring a cushion for the stone seats. But it is also an historic site on the campus, up the hill. And if you climb up to the top you get a great view of the Bay.Written January 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 50and5San Francisco, CA42 contributionsif you want to see Berkley and the whole bay, head up to Centennial Drive to the Lawrence Hall of Science. Parking may be a bit hard to find, depending on the time of day you arrive.
In the afternoons, around sunset is almost impossible to find a good parking spot, because this is the most popular time to go up there. I recommend going earlier in the day, going for a hike in the area, and then marveling at the sunset from the plaza. Kids and adults alike enjoy the science exhibit indoors and climbing up the whale sculpture located outside in the plaza.Written May 13, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is close to the Tilden Regional Park and provides a beautiful view of the nature in and around. It is a great place to drive, trek/hike or cycle enjoying the scenic view. We enjoy our drive through the Peak whenever we visit Berkeley and take photos of the unique view it provides of the Golden Gate Bridge and the surrounding Bay Area.Written December 23, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Charles KBerkeley, CA12 contributionsIt's an easy climb uo the rock as long as you're not wearing dress shoes. Once on top, people tend to have muted, pleasant conversations. A few people will have a smoke, but everyone is mindful of others. My wife and I have been there many times. One of my favorite romantic spots in Berkeley.Written November 18, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Doug Mladera ranch31 contributionsWas a very pleasant stay for a weekend at the hotel. The hotel staff really brings this place up a notch! Deborah at the front desk was very pleasant and accommodating! Also the bar staff was very fun! Really just about everybody we bumped into was pleasant to be around. We have stayed at another historic hotel in the past and will in the future be coming back to the hotel Shattuck. Kudos to your employees for making this worth posting about for the hotel!Written November 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas VOakland, CA16,858 contributionsIt's impressive up close, and we always see it from a distance, from many neighborhoods, from the Bay Bridge, driving on many streets. It is one of the icons of the Berkeley campus and you can go up to the top to see views of the Bay.Written January 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lynne DFox Chapel, PA10 contributionsLovely theater. Nice and smallish. Clean and comfortable. Traveled from Dallas to see Swept Away. Everyone was so nice! The musical was great. Within walking distance of a delicious pizza place.Written February 18, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
