Led by Batwa elders, visitors to the Batwa Experience trek into the forest to see and experience the unique Batwa culture and their traditional lifestyle in the dense forest. Lasting about five to six hours, highlights include learning about medicinal herbs, traditional shelters, fire making, honey harvesting, burial rituals, and different types of snares. This cultural journey also includes story telling, high-energy singing and dancing, scaling to a tiny tree house, visiting a rock shrine, and tagging along on a mock hunt for duikers. Guests also get a shot at a duiker, testing their shooting skills with a traditional wooden bow and arrow. No worries if you cant hit the target, though, we will still let you eat a Batwa-cooked lunch of traditional foods such as goat, matoke, posho, groundnut sauce and fresh fruit.Often said to be the most authentic cultural experience our guests have ever had, the Experience is made by the friendliness, enthusiasm and pride of the Batwa elders, who actually started the Batwa Experience to educate their own children about their forest roots. They choose to be here, wanting to share their culture with anyone who is willing to open their mind and have an incredible new experience. Adventurous travelers from 26 different countries and all continents except Antarctica have had the Batwa Experience, what about you?!*While this is a truly awesome experience that shouldn't be missed, the hike is a challenging one, so we do recommend that our visitors be in fair shape. However, we go at the pace of our guests, so if you're up for the trek, the Batwa are ready to meet you! « less
