"We spent an unforgettable week on the Independence sailing around the amazing islands of Vava'u in search of whales last October. Besides the islands revealed to be well beyond our expectation in beauty we could not have chosen a better arrangement to discover them.
The boat is really perfect for ..."4 people ( though it fits confortably also 6) and if you count hotels, regular whale watching days and food cost is not even particularly more expensive. We had a week of actually not great weather, with rough sea making it hard to spot whales but being on the boat and enjoying the sailing through the landscape still made it one of the best trip of my life.
Otis, the owner and skipper of the boat, is an amazing host completely devoted to giving the guest the best experience and he's also full of amazing stories and a pleasure to sit and chat with. You cannot sit on the front deck a minute that hes' going to get you a pillow ora drink to get more confortable, being super attentive while nev...

"Did this trip in September last year and it was wonderful! Swimming with whales was an incredible experience. It was usually mothers and calves we could swim with - the adults weren't very interested in the small splashy creatures, but the calves would come up and circle round the swimmers - just in..."credible. On one swim the calf was breaching repeatedly (we lost count) and I actually got to see it come out of the water right in front of me! They are beautiful creatures and it's a privilege to be so close to them.
The trip itself was really well organised. Rae takes care of everything so you can just relax and enjoy. We stayed on a boat (not the whalewatch boat) and at Port Wine Guesthouse. Staying on the boat was fun (and the food was delicious), but 'twin share' was a bit awkward. The guesthouse was really good - excellent shower, which was welcome after only a boat shower. Vava'u was a lovely place - as well as the whales we had some great snorkelling and the chance to swim into a...

"Had one of the best snorkeling experiences I have had since arriving in Vava'u. Capitan Don not only made the experience a leisurely adventure he is very knowledgeable about the areas we snorkeled and the local history and legends of the islands. We snorkeled 5 different areas and each one was uniqu..."e and amazing in it's own way. Lunch was spent a beautiful sandy beach, no rush, no worries. Would recommend an outing with Don and Laurie as a Must Do to anyone visiting or living in Vava'u.
Loved It
