"This gem of a State Park is off hwy 87/260 between Payson and Pine, but closer to Pine. Depending on where you come from you can drive north on 87 from Payson, or leave I-17 at Camp Verde and head east on 260.
It’s fairly mountainous with a winding road, and the access road to the well signposted s..."tate park takes you down a 14% grade into a canyon. You pay the admission fee - $5 per person and then go park on one of the fairly large parking lot, considering this place is off the beaten tourist track and doesn't get hordes. There are four viewpoints up at parking level, the trail connecting them is paved and easily wheelchair and or stroller accessible. From these viewpoints you look down at the tunnel underneath the bridge in the canyon creek bed far below.
Tonto Natural Bridge is the world’s largest known travertine natural bridge; travertine being a variety of limestone. There are several trails in addition to the viewpoints. One of them start at the upper parking lot will take you...

"This is a great place that is hidden way off the road, but so worth the drive to it. It is a winding road that takes you to an area to hike down to below the Bridge. Parts of the trail are steep, but you can take your time walking down (and up) and there are benches along the way to rest if neede..."d. I am deathly afraid of heights, but the scenery is so beautiful that the walk down to the lower part of the tunnel under the bridge, was no problem. When you get to the bottom, you can walk around on rocks--slippery so watch your step. You can also take a trail across the top of the bridge and look down---absolutely beautiful. If you have children, they should probably be 8 or more to enjoy this. There are picnic tables if you want to bring a lunch and two portable toilets that were remarkably clean. Be sure to bring water with you in the summer months to stay hydrated.

"Wonderful 3 hrs spent with a 12 & 19 yr old hiking & exploring. Both had a good time. Do wear comfortable shoes with traction if you plan on hiking from one end to the other end via the stream. Make sure you carry water if warm out. Lovely trip overall."
