Originally from Kimberley, and having gone to the Big Hole MANY times, I recently went with my 6 year old brother and my dad, and had anticipated that I would be a little bored. BUT, David was our tour guide...

He was absolutely fantastic - he made the tour really fun and exciting. Knows his stuff really well and was super informative. He was also very interactive with my us, and especially my brother, who had a blast learning about diamonds 💎

    Experience = 10/10
    David (our tour guide) = 20/10 🌟

A wonderful day out close to Kimberley, the park is beautiful, safe, well maintained and has an abundance of animals, including giraffe, buffalo and rhinos as well as many various breeds of buck and antelope.

Really interesting visit to this old diamond mine. The largest man made dug out. All for 3 tonnes of diamonds. Our tour guide Suzanne was very informative. We were part of the Tuesday 23rd January group from blue train. Very hot 🥵 at 34 degrees and mid day.

Housed inside a beautiful old building full of history, the extent of this museums exhibits is a fascinating surprise.
Whilst the building is in need of a little TLC, it doesn't take away from all the interesting displays and knowledge to be found down the various passages and rooms.
Upstairs is a section on the Kimberley Regiment and the World Wars. Downstairs is a Natural History display, as well as a Timeline through the ages... Along with detailed models and informative visual displays.
This is definitely a museum worth visiting and supporting if you are in Kimberley!

My visit was amazing. The museum was full of items and info and the monuments were so interesting. The location had wildlife to view and the view off the mountain was ecstatic

Our family visited while on a quick trip to Kimberley. It’s about a 20 minute drive away and is worth a visit. You start with a short video about two indigenous San groups (!Xun and Khwe) that were relocated to this land in the recent past, having been displaced several times before. I don’t know to what degree their community actually profits from the site which is now managed by the McGregor Museum. I had hoped that the staff and guides would be from the indigenous community but that was not the case. Regardless our guide was knowledgeable and had worked there for quite some time. After the film, you go on a brief guided walk along a boardwalk and the guide points out some of the rock art. Our son enjoyed finding the various carvings and trying to figure out what they represented, Despite their age, some of the etchings are still quite vivid. Others are more faded. The guide helped us to decipher some of the art and also told us more about the plight of the San people. In short, the situation is not good with high levels of unemployment and discrimination against indigenous communities. The museum has a few exhibits but the whole place could use some updating. We were happy to see a school group visiting and wish more people were aware of the history and culture of indigenous groups in Southern Africa.

In this reserve there is many wildlife to see - a lot of sebras, impalas, springbokke and at the one waterhole we even find a mountain tortoise. There are also koi fish in the waterhole.

A really beautifully maintained historic house with a fascinating selection of photographs. Space for more to see. We were the only people there. Robert the curator was a delight and very helpful. Some more exhibitions would be good.

The museum is well kept. The curator took time to show me around and explain the exhibition, further details about this pioneering African. The library contains many research volumes and articles about the South African struggle history and the study of Sol Plaatje himself. I walked away feeling informed and enlightened about his life and work.

It is an absolute gem, I've been wanting to visit the Africana Library for almost two year and it did not disappoint. My husband and I were in absolute awe and wonder. A big shout out to Annelize, the conservator at the library, who took time out of her day to give us a tour and spared no detail.

We only found about this little gem of a museum when we saw a rod sign. It's easy if you know where the station is.

For anyone who loves railways this is a must. They have a 25NC on the platform that is just beautiful. In the museum itself there is a mock up cab of the same loco that kids of all ages will love to play with. All the original bits of beautiful brass, heavy levers and big clanging firebox

Aside from that there are a range of other fascinating bits and pieces that add to the special nature of this museum.

If you are in Kimberley and you love trains this will leave you feeling happy.

Situated on a roundabout, watch out for the cars if you want to get a little closer. A pity to see some graffiti on one of the walls, but an interesting memorial to those killed during the siege of Kimberley in the Second Anglo-Boer war.

Not really impressed as a first visit to the casino as a bit small and no real excitement. It was however well supported by the locals.

Still one of Kimberly's best hidden gems!!

Stunning old art pieces by some of the South African greats, very well preserved and also regular exhibitions by young and new artists.

They also host cultural events and they have a big +150 people amphitheater style available should you want to host an information session or event that requires a little more style
