Cheetah... more » Owner description: Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC) focuses on the conservation of rare, vulnerable or endangered animals. Cheetah Conservation is one of the core disciplines. HESC has established itself as one of the leading private research and breeding facilities for endangered species in the country. Governed by a progressive and modern management approach, it concerns itself with the breeding and maintenance of several endangered indigenous wildlife species in southern Africa. The centre places particular emphasis on the breeding and maintenance of cheetah in captivity. The excellent condition of these animals and the premises on which they are maintained, reflect the attention to detail, which is the hallmark of this facility. STANDARD TOUR The duration of each tour is 2 hours. Therefore it enables the visitor to have sufficient time to ask questions to the guide and do an in-depth tour of the centre. Please note that our first tour can include the cheetah run, however bookings are essential. Prior reservations are essential. Please refer to our rate sheet for more information on special packages and accommodation. DELI at CHEETAH Visitors may enjoy a selection of home baked cakes and a light meal under thatched cover overlooking the Centre's enclosures. Refreshments such as coffee, tea, soft drinks, wine and beer are but some of the offerings available to a thirsty palate. Groups can be catered for, but we advise bookings to guarantee efficient serving time. CURIO SHOP One of the most imported sources of funding at the HESC is the curio shop; stocked to the brim with locally made artefacts, wildlife literature, and children's toys, visitors will no doubt enjoy the experience of browsing through the colorful shelves. Many of the pieces for sale in the shop are made by local communities, renowned for their proficiency in beading and weaving. All proceeds from sales in our curio shop from your visit will go towards the care and up- keep of our hundreds of animals and birds. « less

Tau Camp, is built in a lovely open woodland, it has only three sites, Drongo, Hornbill and Francolin. These are about 200m apart so are very private. The facilities are rustic but superb, and consist of a thatch family bathroom with shower, flush toilet and Basin, and a separate toilet, there is also an outside shower and toilet built around large trees. Mara's Camp is a private camp for one group only, in a thick woodland with beautiful big trees this is a very special camp. Two outside bathrooms are cleverly designed and blend into the surrounding bush. Both camps are unfenced and game is regularly in and around the campsites. There are Four water holes, a thatch hide and a viewing deck three meters up in a tree. Walking only is permitted, there are four marked trails but over 60 km of sandy tracks, however the wholefarm is open to be enjoyed. There is a large selection of plains game at Matamba is very relaxed, over 300 birds and many beautiful trees and grasses. Matamba is ideal as a weekend break or a stopover on the way to Botswana « less

Polokwane means place of safety and this is characterised by the ancient baobab trees which guard the vast expanses of mountains and bushveld. The Limpopo Province is a land of dramatic contrasts illustrated by the age-old indigenous forests, ancient mountain fortresses and luxury modern day facilities. An area where the juxtaposition of old and new never ceases to amaze, it is a land of legend and romance that will intrigue visitors with tales of ancient tribes and fearless pioneers who braved the unknown in the days of old. To this day the province is the home of the enigmatic rain queen who, as the legend of her people proclaim, has the mystical power to make rain.Much of the land, particularly in the Kruger National Park and other game and nature reserves, is unspoilt providing sanctuary to large numbers of game. And for those who wish to experience the thrill of Africa in a more tangible style, Meropa Casino offers visitors a different adventure. « less
