"We had a trekking tour with Sapa sisters guide - very nice girl Ly! Thanks to her, we could experience real, not tourist side of Sapa and surrounding villages. We had 15 km trek, where we met no tourists, only few in final destinations -villages. It was a great day with our wonderful guide Ly, who t..."old us a lot about local people and their life, answered all the questions we had. And by the way, her English was very good!
We had very good lunch and Ly prepared tea from local herbs for us. There were few local women, who followed us during few hours, but they were not annoying and wanted to sell us their handmades only when we had a bite. When we told that we don't want to buy anything, they smiled to us and left us.
I can tell for sure, that this day was the highlight of our 3 weeks in Vietnam and mostly thanks to Ly, who could show us the beauty of the area and real life of people. If you want to avoid groups of tourists and fell in love with Sapa, I would recommend to spend one ...

"We did two one day treks, the first being 15 kms and rather demanding at times. The trick is to pace oneself and take breaks as required. Some areas can be muddy so keeping that in mind is a good idea when selecting footwear. Mud can be slippery which explains my fall (only once and no injuries). Be..." happy if some of the Black H'Mong women tag along and offer help along the way. They are charming and all they hope for in return is that you purchase one of their wares once the trek is over (well worth it with the assistance they offer).
Our second day trek was only 2 kms to see the Silver Waterfall and the Golden Stream Waterfall. The trek at both locations is along stone steps or walkways so much easier than the 15 km trek we had done the previous day.
Both treks are highly recommended for the views which are breathtaking. Do NOT forget your cameras!

"Went with a small group from my hotel with a pleasant Hmong guide named Anh. Cost $5, including admission tickets. We stopped at a place that ground corn and another where they used indigo dye to make blue cloth.
Lots of handicrafts for sale. We went to a small waterfall, then saw a local dance ..."production in an old pump house. Not spectacular, but still entertaining.
The main thing of interest was the scenery. All around here it's glorious. The rice fields are at an intermediate stage; the seedlings have not yet been re-distributed to the final paddies.
Note that there are steep steps if you have trouble walking. Can take a motorbike back to Sapa for 50,000 VND if you are tired.
