The Great Green Macaw Sanctuary is a 268 ha crossed right in the middle by the river we explore floaring, where is possible to see hauler, white face & spider monkeys, coaties, caimans, turtles, toucans and of course the endangered Great Green Macaw; a place where people and nature found the way to coexist in harmony. Owned and protected by a self-sustainer agricultural cooperative this place gives you an authentic rural experience in which you can plant a tree, visit the school & high school, go biking or horse back riding or simply visit the people & talk about the experience & their history.

"Ziplining was on the top of our list during our trip to Costa Rica. Sky Trek was recommended by a friend, and we weren't disappointed. We arrived for the 2 p.m. tour, the last of the day. We loved our guides. They were friendly, funny, knowledgeable and confident. The eight lines were fast and long,..." and the views of the volcano, canopy and lake were beautiful. We felt safe the entire time.
You can bring your camera and take photos during the experience. They also take professional photos of you on the line at the very end for purchase at the end. We wore short sleeves, shorts and sandals and were perfectly comfortable; we forgot bug spray but the bugs seemed nonexistent.
We didn't get to check out the hanging bridges tour, but would like to try it on a return visit. You can make a day of it: Take the tram to the zipline, and after ziplining, take the hanging bridges tour.
Great experience overall. Definitely recommend it.

"There are two ways to hike up to Cerro Chato. One on the side where Fortuna Falls are (not sure where) and the other from Arenal Observatory lodge. We did the Arenal Observatory Lodge hike which is supposed to be more difficult. The hike was pretty hard. I'm in pretty good shape but I work a desk jo..."b so that kind of impacts my physical ability. I've hiked in the Rockies and Andes but I'd definitely rank this up there with one of the more difficult hikes I've done. It's pretty much a straight up hike and I don't recommend it for people who have knee problems. About 2 hours up and 1 hour down so bring lots of water and a snack.
You're definitely rewarded with a beautiful, strange green lagoon you can swim in in a crater of a volcano. When you get to the lagoon there's a little look out point with an awesome view and the option to go either left or right down to the lagoon. We went left and I'm pretty sure that was more difficult way to get down. It was like rock climbing and I nearly ...

"We had a great time zip lining here. The guides (Giovanni, Jorge, Luis) made sure we felt safe at all times. My 11 year old had no fear flying off into the clouds because of their professionalism and competence. We were grateful for the laughs and the beautiful scenery."
