"I love Calhetas!! It's about an hour's drive from Recife and is really the easiest of the "Postcard" beaches in Pernambuco to reach... further away is Porto de Galinhas... Calhetas has a couple of little barzino's with really fine food... it's a protected cove with pristine water, surrounded one sid..."e by huge boulders and on the other dramatic cliffs. You can hike up the cliffs and get an incredible vista overlooking the sea from the top. A great day trip. Beware that the last couple of miles of road is pretty rough! But, it's worth it.

"This is a spectacular stretch of beach south of downtown Recife, lined with luxury apartment buildings, many restaurants, bars, etc. The beach is suffering from erosion in many parts, but is nevertheless spectacular to see. Best beaches are north of the old Boa Viagem craft market (which is itself w..."ell worth visiting on the weekends.) Do NOT walk on the beach at night (robbers), nor should you leave things unattended on the beach. Be careful and you'll have a great time. Also, lots of beach venders... beer, seafood, shrimp, raw oysters and of course, crafts!

"The water temperature is warm, you can rent a chair and a beach umbrella. However there are life-guards, be careful as shark's attacks has happened at the area."
