The pre-Civil War residence of legendary Confederate general Robert E. Lee, this Greek revival mansion was taken over by Union troops, and the estate was used to bury the war dead. Overlooking the Potomac and the grounds of what is now Arlington National Cemetery, the home has been restored as a memorial to Lee.

"After stopping at the Kennedy grave sites on the Arlington Cemetery tour, the second stop is at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. In the summer months the Army's Old Guard performs a "Changing of the Guard" ceremony every 30 minutes. This is a very moving ceremony that should not be missed on any t..."rip to D.C.

"I never would have thought that this place would be and feel so peaceful. We were there the day after Memorial Day. All the individual flags where removed. I was a little bummed about this because I thought they would still be there the following day. It takes 5 hours to place a flag in front of e..."ach headstone according to our guide. A Single Rose was laid on each headstone also. There is a lot of history to be told here.
We were able to watch the changing of the guard and we had a wreath that was to be used in the wreath ceremony. If you have a chance to watch this, I highly recommended it. Emotions will run strong.

"If you go to the Pentagon website about a month before your trip, you can request a tour of the inside of the Pentagon. This is a guided tour that is LOADED with information. Don't take your camera because you cannot take pictures, but just seeing it in person it will blow you away."
