This world heritage site was the home of Tokugawa leyasu, one of the most powerful men in Japan. The castle was built as a residence and not for defense purposes. However, to protect the shogun from enemies, special creaky floorboards were installed to warn of anyone approaching.

"The crimson color gates are impactful and the buildings are beautiful. Lots of history and spirituality.
If you are determined, you can climb to the top of the mountain, following the torii gates and come back down. It will take a few hours, so I would start in the morning. Had I known before hand,..." I would've wanted to gone to the top of the mountain!

"We went there today for the monthly flea market which is on the 21st of every month. If you are in kyoto then , do all your shopping there. There are wonderful non tacky things to buy for not much money . The Japanese have a wonderful sense of style and design and its eveywhere evident in the clothe..."s, ceramics, jewelry being sold by crafts people here. Then when you're done shopping, a stroll through the temple garden and through the famous pagoda reminds you of the beauty of the less material aspects of life.

"Joe Okada's walking tour was the primary reason why I enjoyed Kyoto the most out of all the cities I visited in Japan. Throughout the 5 hour tour you experience a ton of Japanese culture. Everything from Sake tasting, to Japanese Caliography, to visiting shrines, and even a Samurai sword demonstrati..."on. He is truly the original Fruit Ninja. On top of that he is a great guy, and speaks very good English.
Even after the tour was over he walked us to the Subway and gave us directions on how to visit the next temple we were going to after the walking tour.
If you go to Kyoto, Joe's tour is an absolute must to do. If you aren't going to Kyoto, you should go to Kyoto just for the tour. You will not regret it
