Luodai is an ancient town just outside Chungdu. The buildings date back to the 1600's. The main street is 1km long with ancient buildings on either side containing shops, craftsmen and restaurants. There are a number of dress and costume shops where people dress up to have their photo taken. It is easy to reach by either bus or taxi from Chengdu. The journey is c. 20km and takes about 45-60 mins. On a Sunday it is busy with local torists. Many of the shops and street vendors are of the native Hakka tribe. Well worth a visit for half a day.

The key to enjoying this place is t..."o SLOW DOWN. Upon entry you have a Sichuan theatre, doing the traditional face mask changing performances. It is before the Starbucks Coffee. (Hint- Starbucks has clean washrooms just walk through to the back patio.)
Shops sell all sorts for local food as well as crafts. About 1/2 way up the first street they make silk comforters and sell silk clothing. You can also see them use traditional method of turning silkworm cocoons into thread and also rug making by hand.
One street is all small snack shops, selling all sorts of delicacies. All the food places are reasonably priced.
Hint - Good place for taking pictures, but better at night.
Place is popular. During Chinese ho...

"So adjacent to this is a "traditional" setting shopping center with souvineers and eats. The memorial and gardens are quite nice. There are hundreds of Bonsai trees, some looking to be over a hundred years old.
There's a Water garden area that is also quite large. Overall a very large area for..." everything, you could easily spend a whole afternoon here.

"This is such an experience. I wasnt a real fan of Pandas but when I visited this place I found I could watch them eat for hours, the lazy slouching way belly up. Take your time and stroll around this modern and well maintained facility. Its a once in a lifetime opportunity to see these amazing creat..."ures.
