The last structure was destroyed in 1926. The current (29th) structure was built in 1989 and is beautiful. It is based upon drawings of the original 653 palace, but with elevators and other modern amenities. It's views of the river and the city, the bonsai and other gardens that surround it could consume hours. We visited in February, the weather was very similar to Washington D.C., cold/wet, yet all the bonsai were out on the south terraces around the base of the pavilion in their dormant splendor.
