Nanchang Attractions: What to do & Places to Visit in Nanchang
"If you are in Nanchang and are sight seeing, you will visit Tengwang Pavilion. The good news is that you're going to like it. Short story: Second Emperor of the Tang dynasty built his younger bro a crib in 653.
Like many historic sites in China, it has burned/been destroyed many times over the yea..."rs, 28 times for this site, changing architecture and function over the years. The last structure was destroyed in 1926. The current (29th) structure was built in 1989 and is beautiful. It is based upon drawings of the original 653 palace, but with elevators and other modern amenities. It's views of the river and the city, the bonsai and other gardens that surround it could consume hours. We visited in February, the weather was very similar to Washington D.C., cold/wet, yet all the bonsai were out on the south terraces around the base of the pavilion in their dormant splendor. So expect a wonderful experience at any time of the year.
As I said, it will be on your itinerary, rejoice!

"This is the place where the Chinese Communist Party decided to revolt against the alliance with the Kuomintang which eventually led to the Long March, civil war and of course victory for the CCP. The front building is basically the hotel where the meeting took place and where the various people sta..."yed. It's nice to see how the hotel was furnished at that time.
At the back a new building, housing a small monument, photographs and items from that era. I like the section where photographs of Chinese returning from overseas (such as Malaya, Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines) to join the CCP army.

"Although this is not the original building (over the centuries the building has been destroyed and burnt many times), it is still a great place to visit. There is a great view of the Gan River, and the surrounding gardens are large enough to find a little peaceful corner despite the throngs of tour..."ists.
There is a souvenir shop on almost every floor but don't let that put you off. Some of the souvenirs are actuallty worth seeing and buying.
