Se ha preguntado de donde provienen los bloques de sillar? ... De las imponentes canteras de sillar Ud. Quedara fascinado al contemplar los enormes farallones de hasta 30 metros de altura labrados a combo y cincel por los alarifes o maestros que se delinean contra el cielo azul teniendo como fondo al Misti y el Chachani. Las imponentes canteras de sillar, son producto de una terrible explosion en la superficie de la tierra ocurrida hace millones de anos que al solidificarse se convirtieron en la ignimbrita conocida como el sillar, dichas quebradas se ubican en los distritos de Cerro Colorado, Uchumayo y Yura a 18Km. De la plaza de armas de Arequipa. La combinacion de paisaje natural y cultura viva ofrecen al visitante una experiencia unica por la presencia del maestro cantero o alarife quien en su manifestacion de creatividad mas pura expresa tecnicas ancestrales de extraccion cuya caracteristica fundamental es una rica tradicion de conocimiento legados que no son fruto del azar sino de la experiencia heredada de generacion en generacion, de la transformacion cotidiana del entorno para vencer a la adversidad. En su visita a la Ruta del Sillar podra escuchar de la voz de cada Cantero, historias de vida, de esfuerzo y teson, presenciara caidas de bloques mayores, desbroces de bloques medianos y la maravillosa experiencia de ver labrar bloques pequenos de sillar realizados con instrumentos sencillos como la barreta el cincel y el combo. Durante el recorrido se podra apreciar tambien algunas escurridizas vizcachas, podras realizar caminatas de mediana exigencia, en la zona de "Cortadores" veras representaciones de fachadas o tallados coloniales, encontraras Talleres de Interpretacion de labrado de sillar los que estan dirigidos por Canteros, durante el recorrido de la Ruta. A una distancia aproximada de 30 km, se encuentra una hermosa Cantera inexplorada, la cual ha recibido el nombre de Culebrillas por la configuracion de su geografia, que a modo de pequenas hileras se elevan enormes farallones que al ingresar causa sensaciones de majestuosidad e impresionante belleza natural, en determinadas zonas hay presencia de grabados o dibujos tallados en las enormes paredes blancas beige que llama la atencion de los visitantes. Ahora, preparese para quedar hechizado por el encanto de las Canteras de Sillar, sus Cortadores Artesanales y su impactante belleza, capaz de cautivar, sorprender, dejar huella y recuerdos imborrables. El reto de este escenario milenario y excepcional es su continuidad imperecedera que envuelva al visitante con el pasado ancestral del cantero y sus saberes tradicionales en el eco del corte de la piedra liberando millones de anos encapsulados en el latir del dulce cincel sobre la recia y blanca roca "la carosa" en el unisono del comentario del turista con los lexicos del cantero, tras una experiencia de historia, pasado y tradicion viva.
