- LMSPLondon223 contributionsI stopped for lunch in this lovely old town and saw that the top attraction is this art gallery. The current exhibition is around flowers and plants and of extremely high quality and very well curated. Also much bigger than is apparent from the outside. I had maybe 45 minutes to spare and could happily have spent much longer. My only criticism is that it’s all in German and I don’t speak German. I’m so used to English being the second language in museums and galleries across Europe that I didn’t expect this. There was a QR code next a few pictures but that just took me to the main website and I couldn’t find substantive information about the artwork. At the front desk, I was told I had to put my hand bag in a locker and it would have been apparent to that person that my German is non existent. Maybe she could have pointed me to something else. I saw one person wearing a headset. But it is free, so what can you expect when something is free and of high quality. Just a shame as it wouldn’t cost much to add a few words in English and appeal to all those tourists who don’t speak German.Written August 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SteveageRexburg, ID3,271 contributionsSt. Michael is first documented in 1156. Throughout the 15th and 16th century modifications were made on this church. There are many beautiful works of art in here, please check out all the pictures and descriptions I post. We walked up the many stairs of the bell tower, it was gorgeous to look out over this beautiful town. Historic, glorious sounding bells that were made from 1299 - 1538 are easily visible as you climb the steps of the bell tower. The high altar with the "Passion and Resurrection of Jesus" was completed in 1460. Other altars are here form the 16th century. The main, big ,crucifix is dated to 1494. This is a must see church in a must see town!Written March 24, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- djw2000Backnang, Germany131 contributionsI've been to the Hohenloher Freilandmuseum (or Wackershofen as it's generally known, due to the village in which it is located) and never been let down. The "park" is beautiful and very expansive, the buildings in a good state of repair and the museum is very informative. There are frequent worthwhile and interesting events to attend and the food offered is also great. (Tip: Go to the Besen if you can and have their 'Board' - if you can manage it all!)
Probably the best attraction in the local area and worth a journey too.Written September 3, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - albertv1527Utrecht, The Netherlands605 contributionsA small but superb collection of old masters paintings and sculptures. The quality matches that of the big world-renowned art museums. As it is part of the collection Würth it has free entry. If you are not sure whether you like this stuff, this is the place to try and find out. If you already know you like it: there's several paintings by Lucas Cranach the Elder, a Holbein, a Matthias Grünewald that I really liked. Also some magnificent wooden sculptures by Tilman Riemenschneider.
Do look up as well. The setting in an old church is lovely. And the wooden beams supporting the roof certainly deserve your attention also. Go to the small balcony for even better viewing.Written October 20, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is free to walk around. I was lucky to find the guided tour the day I went there (only in German and only at specific times). It costs 5 euros and lets you see the inside of the St. Nicholas church (which otherwise remains locked - I don't know if only during these Covid years or always). Check the website for latest information.Written June 22, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Luc HOberkochen, Germany334 contributionsFor a museum that was free of charge, the exhibition is well laid out and interesting. From millions of year old fossils through the Stone Age to the fascinating history of the salt trade times.
Worth a visit and go right to the top of one of the tallest and oldest buildings of the town.
The many shooting targets are fascinating.Written November 18, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Walking along the Kocher River, crossing the timber bridge to Biergarten Unterwöhrd, the shops along the way are quaint. You will not able to take enough pictures.Written March 24, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- albertv1527Utrecht, The Netherlands605 contributionsNice spot in the old city, with Johanniterkirche and some halftimbered houses which reflect beautifully in the water.
While you are there don't forget to visit the Johanniterkirche. Even if you don't like the high quality collection of old masters (free entrance) still the wooden beam construction of its roof is impressive to see.Written October 20, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This a a fish holder for selling at the market that was located here. Not a destination reason, but a cool thing to see while you're here.Written March 24, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
