What travelers are saying
- tripper40Tilburg, the Netherlands422 contributionsWell kept and well-arranged park. Small in its entirety but nevertheless the animals seem to have plenty of room there. I especially liked the tiger 'cage', which is in fact a pretty large terrain bordering on the remains of an old fort. The zoo is only a five minute walk from the city centre, which is also worth seeing.Written November 4, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CWGermany124 contributionsThe experience was pretty good. Perhaps we were lucky but a number of the animals were awake and even interactive. I know that plenty of people aren't happy about the high cost of the entry fee, and some say the experience was short lived and boring.
The place itself isn't huge, do not expect to spend an entire day there unless you actually hang around for the whole day to make the most of the entry fee. There are very short information talks and animal shows almost hourly. But otherwise the high entry cost would attribute to their maintenance of the facility, high electrical costs and enclosures of the reptiles.
I am giving it 4 stars because of my support for the care they give for these reptiles. A lot of the animals are either very old, born in captivity and can't be released, were injured and have been in the care of the terrarium, were smuggled into the country by smugglers who were caught, or were randomly found and caught in Germany with no where to go because they simply do not belong in the country.
The terrarium survive mostly on visitors and donations and it is admirable what they've done for the animals.
Even if it isn't going to take up half your day to visit the place, I'd still encourage the experience so long as you do not mind paying the entry fee.Written July 7, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. However, we were lucky enough to know someone who was able to take us into the fortress walls - which look like this - and we were so impressed. It was a very interesting story because Landau is right on the border with France at various periods of history and the castle/fortress walls were built to keep either France out or Germany out at various times I really enjoyed walking under them in the caves - and also seeing the formation which was made specifically to deal with cannons. Hopefully someday more information will be available for the public.Written February 15, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - EvaF2EvaWeissenburg in Bayern, Germany4,840 contributionsStiftskirche in Landau is a nice church with simple, but nice interior. I recommend to stop by for a while once you are in the town.Written May 21, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paaeventyr95Oslo, Norway67 contributionsWe were a group of 13 adults wanting to see a German winery, and ordered a "Weinprobe" at Otto Pfaffmann pretty much by coincidence. Early March - but we still did a walk of the Weinberg, which was very interesting. Everything was explained to us, the vineyards were decorated with sculptures of local artists - and they even had a demo section where you in the fall can look at and taste the whole range of grapes for white and red wines. Afterwards followed aperitif and weinprobe in the Weingut. Very good wines and nibbles, with higly competent hosts - university educated in wine making - explaining us the differences between the different wines. The included lunch was home made and simply delicious - we felt like having been taken into the home of the wine makers. Very welcome.Written April 15, 2013This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
