Annie Adair and her colleagues offer a introductory walking tour of Volterra, Tuscany's oldest, continuously-inhabited city.The one-hour walk is held EVERY DAY from 6pm to 7pm, April through October (except August). Cost: €10 per person, minimum 3 persons or €30Meeting point: Piazza Martiri della Libertà, in front of the ALI alabaster shop.This is a group tour, and there is no need to book in advance.The walk is done in English by professional, licensed guides and touches on Volterra's Etruscan, Roman and Medieval history.

Among the rooms of the Palazzo that may be visited are the ornate period bedroom known as Alcova used by members of the Austrian Imperial family, including the Tuscan Grand Duke, Leopold II. Also, the frescoed Sala Impero, with its gilt and mirrors, the Studiolo that houses some of the family's antique books, the Salotto Verde with its view of the roof garden and, then the Studio in which are found mementos of the inventor George Westinghouse, great grandfather of the present owner.

"This etruscan museum ihaswell preserved artefacts, especcially focused on the urns and everyday objects. I did miss multi-lingual information boards, for this kind of presentations I would say 8 € per person is overpriced."

Annie is a PHENOMENAL tour guide! She is an American expatriate who's lived in Tuscany since 1998 and has immersed herself in the history of the area. I could not believe how much information she packed into an hour. She covered a HUGE amount of history, from the Etruscans (~1,500 BC), Romans, Medicis, WWII and a bit later... She tells WONDERFUL stories about how the Volterrans saved their 400 BC Etruscan Arch, how a local doctor enlisted 100 men to unearth an ancient Roman theater that had been buried for thousands of years, how Lorenzo di Medici crushed Volterra in the 1400's.
