"Before our trip to Tuscany, we researched what would be the best way to see the major cities and towns. We picked Montecatini as a base for day trips to Florence, Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Pisa, and the Cinque Terre. Montecantini proved to be well worth spending time in as as well...", and not only for it's waters. The town has everything needed to make a vacation enjoyable- any number of restaurants and shops, a large park, and beautiful architecture. The relaxing atmosphere was exactly what we needed after a day of sometimes hectic sightseeing. Grand Hotel Plaza, on Piazza Del Popolo, was recommended to us and it turned out to be an excellent choice. It is an historic hotel in the middle of town, with a lot of character and long list of famous people who have stayed there; Giuseppe Verdi for one. Breakfasts were substantial and dinners very good with top notch service. I would stay in Montecatini again because of the amenities and location.
