Housed in England's first agricultural college, this fine historic building is Pickering's hidden gem. We have 27 rooms or areas of separate displays, covering many aspects of local, social and family history, militaria and everything weird and wonderful. Thousands of objects are thoughtfully displayed in re-created period shops throughout the building. On our special event days we have a number of working craftspeople, covering such crafts as Printing, Blacksmithy, Costumery, Rag-rugging. Lacemaking, Quilling, Quilting, Spinning, Butter making etc. We have an Activities Room where children may play Victorian games, a riverside picnic area, a gift shop, modern toilets including disabled facility and baby changing unit, disabled access and DVD for disabled visitors. We are open 7 days a week from February to November 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"The station and onboard staff make a spectacular journey even more enjoyable. Despite the rather gloomy weather they managed to put a smile on everyone's face."
"We travelled from Pickering to Whitby and back and really enjoyed the whole experience. Everything has been renovated, renewed and recreated in great detail. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable and the journey is a lovely way to travel. But the highlight was that on our return journey we had the..." Sir Nigel Gresley locomotive to pull our carriages. That in itself was remarkable but I think the sight of all those railway enthusiasts taking photos of the nuts and bolts and couplings will stay with me for a long time!

"Great train trip which took me back to my childhood. We went from Goatland to Pickering and back. Seeing a steam train again was great and the carriages really did try and lull you to sleep as we went along at about 15mph solots of time spent looking out of the window. Good snacks and drinks servic..."e, the hot chocolate was excellent and really needed as when we were in Pickering it actually started hailing as well as blowing a gale.
