Completed in 1978 this is the largest Anglican cathedral in Europe. Inside, the lack of adornments only adds to vastness of the "great space." A combination of elevator and stairs takes visitors to the exterior heights of the tower and some grand views of the city and landscapes below. A small fee is required for the vista experience.

The original Liverpool Philharmonic Hall opened on 27 August 1849, and was an acclaimed and integral part of the cultural life of Liverpool before being dramatically destroyed by fire in 1933.The present day art-deco Philharmonic Hall, designed by architect Herbert Rowse and built on the same site, was officially opened on Monday 19 June 1939. Today it presents on average 250 events each year, of which approximately 70 are concerts by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and sells over 250,000 tickets annually. The venue has an illustrious tradition of bringing the top names from rock, jazz, classical, folk and roots, classical and contemporary music to Liverpool. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Buddy Holly all appeared at the Hall during their careers. The Hall also hosts classic and blockbuster films and premieres, shown on the unique Walturdaw rising cinema screen with Merseyside's only resident theatre organist, Dave Nicholas, and houses the delightfully intimate and informal Rodewald Suite, with its own entrance on Sugnall Street, which, with its cabaret seating, in-house bar and rooftop terrace, is home to the popular After 8 series of jazz, roots and unplugged gigs. Liverpool Philharmonic has been working with schools and the community since the 1940s, and the Learning programme now offers a range of exciting and inspirational opportunities to get involved in live music-making of the highest quality for thousands of people every year in the Hall and throughout the region.

A 15-minute walk from its Anglican counterpart along Hope Street, 1960s' "futurism" best describes the exterior of what's locally know as "Paddy's Wigwam." The huge interiors illuminated by natural light through the exquisite stained glass is worth the journey itself.

more »Owner description:
Knowsley Safari Park was opened to the public in July 1971 by the 18th Earl of Derby. Then, the `safari park' concept of having visitors in cages (cars) and the animals roaming free based on the drive-through game reserves of East Africa was unique. In 1994, Edward Stanley, the 19th Earl, succeeded to the title. The estate being only 8 miles (13 km) from Liverpool city centre, Knowsley was the first safari park to be built close to a large city. In spite of some understandable apprehension about the possible problems associated with large numbers of animals (including lions) roaming about close to the city, the then County and District councils approved the proposals. In the first two years of opening, the route through Knowsley Safari Park consisted of a 3½ mile (5.6 km) drive, and the main attractions were lions, cheetahs, monkeys, giraffes, zebra, elephants and various antelopes. The park proved immensely popular, so in 1973 an extension, including a further 1½ miles (2.4km) of road, was built and opened. This allowed more animals to be added to the collection on display along the now 5-mile- (8 km) long route, including herds of camels, buffalo and white rhino as well as a group of tigers.A few modifications to the original design have had to be made for safety and display reasons. The tigers and lions are now displayed in enclosures within the game reserves, and the elephants have their own paddock in the walk around section at the end of the safari drive. We also have a car friendly route around the outside of the monkey jungle for visitors who do not wish to have a close encounter with our baboons. Knowsley Safari Park has become one of Merseyside's premier leisure attractions, winning several awards for tourism and it's animal husbandry.

Beautiful and vast stretch of sandy beach north of the city. There are lovely forested walks through a red squirrel reserve along with one of the country's most scientifically important dune collections. A great escape from the city and a good place to let children run off some energy. Car parking fee applies.

Sudley House has been described as a hidden gem. Tucked away in leafy suburbs, Sudley is the only house of a Victorian merchant that still has its original pictures, including works by Millais, Turner and Rossetti, and with beautiful period furniture, carpets and wallpaper it doesn't feel like a regular gallery. There is also a childhood room, a small world room and a costume room, which often house temporary displays, and tearooms. Admission is free.

At the heart of Liverpool's famous, iconic and always developing waterfront. Visually, nothing defines the city more than the Royal Liver and accompanying Cunard and Port of Liverpool buildings by Pier Head. Known collectively as the "Three Graces" and loosely based on the skyline of early 20th century Chicago, the interiors are sadly not open to the public.

"I have been to Hilbre Island a few times now since moving to Wirral last year and when my friends visit it is a must do on our list (if time allows!) Hilbre Island is a nature reserve and the largest of 3 little islands just off West Kirby beach. It takes around an hour to walk to the island when th..."e tide is down. Careful planning is needed for this trip to ensure the tide doesn't come up while your exploring the island as you could be stuck for a good few hours. It is a nice scenic walk and quite often there are seals (mainly grey seals,a few common seals) playing in the water at the end of the island.
Check here for planning the trip http://www.deeestuary.co.uk/hilbre/plan.htm and here for tide times http://www.tidetimes.org.uk/hilbre-island-tide-times
When I went it was cold and we had pretty much the whole island to ourselves. The walk to the island is pretty popular when the weather is nice.

"There are other U boats on display in other countries. Most of these are boats where you can walk through eg Helsinki.Bearing in mind that this has corroded away in the water i suppose they have done the best they could in the circumstances. It took me one and a quarter hours to walk around.my only co..."mplaint was that it was quite difficult to read some of the cards in the display case.for some reason they are at the back and the case is not lit.

"Despite the pouring rain, this was the best riding experience I have had (and I've had a few)!
The horses were all perfectly behaved and very well looked after, the staff all super helpful and the ride itself amazing!"
