The Norwegian Regalia are still in use and thus represent the country´s form of government as a more than thousand-year-old monarchy. During this period the position and authority of the sovereign has been legitimised and sanctioned in different ways. The Norwegian Constitution of 1814 determined that any Norwegian coronations from that time onward were to take place in Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. This re-established the relationship to the sacred king´s burial church. The constitutional article about the coronation was annulled in 1908. « less
