Here you will find the ruins of the medieval cathedral and the bishop's residence from the 13th Century on the beautiful Museum grounds on the outskirts of Hamar. The museum is comprised of archaeological exhibitions, a botanical garden and an outdoor museum with about 60 buildings from around Hedemarken County. The cathedral ruins are protected by a much-discussed protective structure in glass and steel, called the Hamar Dome, which is an attraction in itself. Open every day in summer season. Groups all year when booked in forehand.

The Viking Ship is a modern multi-purpose hall with an interesting architecture. The form is based on the shape of the Viking ships, a functional and beautiful shape that is as appealing today as it was a thousand years ago. It was built for the Winter Olympics in 1994, and the Viking Ship is Norway's national arena for skating.

"If you like trains this is the place to go when you are in Hamar. I have visited the museum a couple of times since the opening a few years ago and I will go there again when I'm here and have time. It is quite big and can give you an insight in the history of railways and trains in Norway."
"Well worth a visit, great for kids to explore, shows norway's history of railway stations, locomotives and carriages. On the day of our visit, their narrow gauge train was running, very friendly crew. Was easy to find. Has a large collection of historical artefacts and photographs. Good value."
