This famous fortress, standing on a rocky island off the coast of Marseille, was immortalised by Alexandre Dumas in The Count of Monte Cristo as the prison where the novel’s hero, Edmond Dantes, was incarcerated before ultimately escaping. We learned so much about winemaking, French wines, and the Provence region. Marion was passionate and k..."nowledgeable about wine and made learning fun…and tasting some fabulous wines didn’t hurt either!

"It is on the highest point of the city, so basically you could see the golden statue of the Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde from everywhere in Marseille. In order to have a close-up view of the church and see the interior, my hubby and I decided to walked straight from the old port to the church t..."hat windy morning. We walked through many small streets and bending roads of the Marseille city and kept going uphill. It’s not really tiring, but the wind was so strong that it kept blowing my long hair from one side to the other. For about an hour, we reached the church. It has a magnificent view of the whole Marseille city. Besides going inside the church, we stayed quite a while outside looking at the city from different angles despite of the windy and rainy weather. It is a nice sight-seeing spot which should not be missed when you visit Marseille. The local people told me that they see Notre-Dame de la Garde as the guardian and protector of the city. How amazing!

"It is a very nice port with different kinds of activities all around. I like watching the yachts and boats moving in and out of the port, people selling fresh fish and seafood near the harbor. It has a broad and nice of the city center of Marseilles. It is nice walking under the mirrored canopy, ..."you could watch the movements of cars and people from another angles. It provided me good angles for photo shooting too. Only complaint is: the restaurants around the port charged very high for the drinks and food.
