The great surprise was that the reality exceeded every expectation I had! Marvelleous place, divine cuisine, I felt pampered and treated and served like a princess. I could write for days about how amazing the place and the people are. I recommend you to visit Bordeaux which is take breathing and do your shopping on rue St.Catherine. It was amazing seeing the ecclectic mix of medieval and new architectural structures along the banks of the river. We were astounded by the abundance of wildlife in this region and the variety of bird species tha..."t make their homes in the lush bushes and trees on the the river banks. Some of these birds pointed out were rare and others unique to this region. The river is clean with no evidence of pollution and the surrounds on either side of the river are beautifully cared for by residents and well maintained.   "Worth doing. It is peaceful and relaxing - we went first thing in the morning and there were no other boats around. The river current does most of the work for you - avoid overshooting your landing spot as it is very hard work to canoe even a short distance upstream! We used Canoe Dordogne in Roq..."ue Gageac and they were good - not expensive, obliging and easy to deal with - once we were able to make contact with them. They were not at the kiosk at the advertised opening time so we wished we had booked and set it up the previous day to save time. One tip we were given was to ask them to take you upstream so you can canoe back to your starting point, rather than have to ring to get picked up. This worked well for us. I wouldn't say we saw a lot from the river in terms of the towns etc but the countryside was nice. " More >
