This mysterious stone circle is thought to have been constructed in Neolithic times between 2500 to 2000 BC by The Beaker people, who might have played a major role in the formation of another eerie ancient site at Stonehenge.

"Really fabulous walking part of the Roman path to Bath, on a weird inexplicable (no one really knows) bunch of Pagan things comprising a circular ditch + berm, stone circles of vertical individual stones at centres (this is much older that Stonehenge, much, much older) and several mounds of which Si..."lbury Hill is the tallest man made mound in Europe (about 40m). The church of course decided this Pagan stuff should be destroyed and what better use for the stone than building a church, yes can you believe it, smack bang in the middle so as to counter act any positive energy emanating from the geometry, so unfortunately you may only view what little remains of the original stone circle. "This is my third visit to Avebury, I live in Australia and for some reason whenever I visit my daughter in Oxfordshire I have to go to Avebury......It is as others have said a circle of huge stones that go through the village of Avebury and was thought to have been built at least 2000 BC. This time..." I took crystals with me and I sat close to what I thought was the middle of the circle not the paddock its in. It was there that I had the deepest meditation ever, it lasted approx 45 mins, it was cold and windy and a chill factor of about 4c but I was not aware....I had my blanket wrapped around me and 2 hoodies on and I was worlds away...absolutely magic and spiritual...I loved it and will continue to go when ever I get the chance!
