Old Town Glassworks is a workers cooperative dedicated to the transformation of bottles into glass art. In 1994, Matthew Grogono developed an innovative technique, to cut bottles, grind rims and polish vessels into beautiful glassware; with smooth brims, that feel wonderful in your hand.Over two decades of experimentation, OTG developed a diversified line of products, including drinking glasses, vases, bowls and candle holders of various colours and sizes. Each piece is enhanced when sandblasted with a northern pattern. Our patterns are created by local artists and reflect the unique ecology of northern Canada. It is growing in popularity because of its’ originality, its’ environmental innovation and its’ beauty. We estimate that over 95, 000 bottles have been transformed by OTG since 1994 and we believe that it’s only the beginning. We now offer fun, 2 hour workshops 3 times a day, 6 days a week, where participants get to design and create their very own personalized souvenir, gift or functional glassware.

"We visited the Heritage Centre the day we were leaving. If we could do it all over again I'd go at the start. Very interesting and informative and great way to better appreciate Yellowknife, it's history and people. Not a great deal of interactive displays or talks, but items on display were of grea..."t significance and importance. Highly recommend any visitor makes time at the start of the trip to drop in. Worth spending sometime.

"The dog sledding through Beck's Kennels was part of our package with Yellowknife Outdoor Adventures. Was a truly remarkable experience - I don't know how the dogs do it! The beauty of the lake we traveled on was simply breathtaking and the added opportunity to lead your own dog team was awesome. The..." only thing I would say is to take goggles and balaclavas and anything else to keep your face warm! We hadn't been told to bring anything along and there was only limited items there for hire (which were already on loan). Your face gets rather chilled can I say during the mushing so the more protection you have the better.
Certainly one of the many highlights on our visit to Yellowknife and would tell anyone interested to make sure this is on their 'To Do' list.

"Down to Earth Gallery is the best place in Yellowknife to find all kinds of authentic, locally created art in town.
Nothing is mass produced and imported.
Unique local paintings, jewelry, photography, buttons, clothing, sculpture, glassworks, pottery and even CDs.
A vist here is an exposure to..." our unique northern culture.
A purchase here truly supports our artist community.
