The Big Buddha is still (May '13) under construction but nearing completion. Built on the highest point of Phuket, it can be seen from kilometres away around the island. It is definitely worth a visit, and you can get a cheap meal up there too. There's also great places to grab a scenic picture if you came with family, friends or your significant other and not alone, like me :'( The Thais know that a big statue alone isn't going to impress everybody, so there's other things to see and do around the top of the mountain.
