"We took three tours with Victor, two different sites in Carera and a Tarcoles River/Mangrove/Beach boat tour. In each case Vic was able to show us not only the birds, but big and small mammals, poison-dart frogs, bats, sloth, and more. From experiance, we know that seeing one specific bird can't b..."e guaranteed; this is nature and not Disneyland but we saw many species incluing some of the very secretive ones. Vic is very knowledgeable and sgares it well. He very quickly learns what your specific interest is and the tailors the tours to that. So, we not only saw many animals but got some fantastic pictures. He also topped off the two hikes by stopping at a "juice-bar" to get frehly made iced fruit drinks that capped off a great morning. I would recommend Vic to anyone interested in seeing the local wildlife.

"We went on two "walks" and a boat tour with Vic on our recent trip to Costa Rica. He is an expert bird guide, recognizing the calls of various birds as well as knowing which vegetation they prefer, etc. While it would have been fun to walk through Carrara Park on our own, we would have missed so m..."any things without having Vic to point them out! He picked us up at our hotel and even treated us to a cold fruit drink on our way home. Vic is very personable and easy to be with - you will enjoy spending time with him.

It's a natural stop along this drive - approximately half way along the 3 hour drive. The park itself is a transitional forest - not enough rain to be consid..."ered a rain forest but still more rain than your typical forest. There are a lot of creatures here and almost none of the people. We stopped at the ranger station to pay the entrance fee ($10/person) and to hire a guide ($25/person for our party of 2). Our guide, Enrique, then got in our car with us and we drove 1.5 km to a trail head. We'd been warned about the safety about parking at the trail heads, but the parking lot had a few cars in it and a man the guide told us was there to watch the cars. (We tipped him afterwards a few dollars). Enrique spoke fluent English and spent 3+ hours with us pointing out bats, frogs, birds, lizards, and a few mammals. The trail itself is flat and t...
