Mukeng Village is nearby Hongcun Village. It is surrounded by a bamboo forest and ninja scenes from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon were filmed in the bamboo forests here. The village can be reached from the ticket gate by foot, and also by 'flying fox' which takes you across the bamboo forest valley to the base of the village. There is some basic accommodation in this village.

"First built in the Southern Song Dynasty about 900 years ago Hongcun Village is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ancient village features beautiful lakes, first class old dwellings, peaceful streets and alleyways and is a favourite of many artists whom you can see painting the scenery as you wan..."der around the village. One of the bridges in the village featured in the movie :Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and it is said that the construction of the village follows the principles of feng shui Nice place to visit if you have not seen any of the ancient villages around China - this is one of the better ones.

"This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a long way (4 hours by bus) from where we were staying in Hefei. At the foot of the Yellow Mountains this village, dating back to Ming and Qing Dynasties, offered a peaceful lake and quiet alleys with lots of picture possibilities. A tourist destination it was clut..."tered with lots of people selling items in doorways and shops. This took away from the ambiance of the surroundings. Lots of artists were around trying to capture the splendor of this site.

"A 2 hour bus ride from Tunxi town. We visited here the next day after climbing Huangshan and because our flight to Shanghai was late at night.
The village itself seems well preserved. It is popular with chinese tour groups and art students.
Quite a few places to eat, only a couple that actually..." had an english menu though.
A picturesque site with many photo opportunities.
