The Royal Port Alfred Golf Course is one of the oldest and best known in South Africa and was established in 1907.The undulating course snakes its way through thickets of pristine coastal forest and over hilly dunes always with the smell and sounds of the Indian Ocean close by whose blue waters offer the most panoramic views from many of the fairways. In true links tradition every slope, mound and dip remains untouched, demanding creative shot making and deft reading of angles.Adding to the allure and charm of the course is its resident wild life. Normally shy bushbuck will continue grazing contently as you walk by while springbok and impala pronk with delight. The blesbok, fallow deer duiker and giant tortoise peer at the golfers with suspicion and there is bird life in abundance.Visitors are always most welcome.

Beautiful golf course- well laid out, steeped in history too- if one takes one's time to read about it. As one of the few golf courses in the world- owning the right to 'Royal'- the facility has hosted many famous names, and games over the 120 years of its existence. Beautifully looked after- amazing buck accompany you while you play-... More

Excellent facility with new clubhouse, great views over the Indian Ocean and lots of game wandering the fairways. Although not long, it has many tricky challenging holes. Very welcoming members, particularly in the pub after a game!

Interesting, undulating course with a lot of longer open holes, split 13/5. Lovely views, and good fun, exposed on the hills above the coast and will be challenging in strong winds. Lots of wildlife to be seen, duiker, springbok, tortoises etc. Club staff very relaxed and friendly, rates affordable. If you want to book a game over December, book ahead,... More

To be allowed to play a " Royal" golf club , with really friendly members and pay such a modest green fee makes RPAFGC the one golf course that all should include on their bucket list of things to do

A gem reminiscent of colonial times with impala and tortoises frequent visitors on the fairways. Undulating and lovely views. Well worth playing and greatly enjoyed.

This is a quirky golf course with a lot of hills and lovely views. I love the buck on the course too! It was a hot day with little breeze. The greens were being top dressed which made putting a joke. I really think that one should be warned and offered a reduced rate under those conditions. Then we were... More

This is a very scenic and historic course. The layout is fun and the scenery outstanding. The rough should be avoided and when the the wind blows it becomes a little more than tricky. I continue to enjoy many rounds on this course.

This course is nicely located and not very crowded. Wonderful meet-up with Springboks, other deer, turtles and different bird species; all are tame. The course is not too ambitious, with the exception of 3-4 holes, where you have to drive over bushes: broad fairways, some bunkers (not in good shape) only, no water obstacles, partly untended greens. Many hidden holes... More
