We are just back from 3+ weeks travelling all over Costa Rica. We have used several guides during that time, and in general they were OK (some less so). Rafael, on the other hand, is light years better than all of them put together! If the others were perhaps suitable for teaching elementary school children, then Rafael is the one... More

Seven of us experienced the main areas of Costa Rica in December 2014. We all agreed that the highlight attraction was the educational guidance of Danilo Brenes through the Curicancha Reserve in the Monteverde area. Danilo is a wonderful guide! He was personable, patient with the various ability levels of our group, ages 26 to 70. He spotted birds and... More

We had a great 'night-walk' with guide Danilo Brenes while on holiday from UK. We saw so much including an orange-kneed tarantula, (which he carefully coaxed from a hole in the ground), a two-toed sloth, various katydids, a parrot (trying to sleep), leaf-cutter ants and three sightings of the nine-banded armadillo. Danilo has a great deal of knowledge about these... More

The three of us were quite underwhelmed by our guided hike in the Monte Verde Cloud Forest. We saw a couple of rather unimpressive birds through our guide's binoculars and did not see any further wildlife. While we understand that nature cannot be planned, the marketing for this tour was quite far off from what you will actually experience. Would... More

Our Hotel owner Carlos booked an early morning walking tour with Danilo Brenes when we were in Monteverde. We visited the reserve- Curicancha, and should say we were not disappointed. The best thing about Danilo is that he takes only small groups may be 6 to 8 max. We were only 4 that day and he could attend to each... More

Me and my family have recently done a guided tour with Daniel Brenes, who was recommended to us by our very lovely hotel manager Reina. We've never used tripadvisor before but in this case we wanted to let people know how great he is, as we have done other nature tours since and none of them have been anywhere near... More

We had Danilo Brenes as our guide in Curi Cancha wildlife refuge and we can absolutely recommend him. He is very knowledgeable about the various animals as well as plants and the ecological context of the forest and can explain all of this very well. We did not have specific requests for him to focus on as this was our... More

We toured Curi-Cancha with Cristian and have no regrets! He was so knowledgable. From our first interactions, you could tell that he loved his job. He spotted animals that we would have never been able to see on our own. In addition, he was not rushed at all. He took his time to explain to us the forest, animal characteristics... More

My hostel set us up with Adrian Mendez, who has over 20 years of experience in Monteverde. He was able to identify birds by their calls, and paying attention to this really made the forest come alive in a different dimension for our group. Adrian was also adept at spotting birds amid the heavy vegetation, which is no small feat!... More

We went on a guided cloud forest tour with Danilo Brenes and it was really amazing. His enthusiasm and love of the area was absolutely contagious. We were a group of 4 adults and 3 children and between us, we couldn't come up with a question that he didn't have the answer to. I would recommend going on any adventure... More
