We (my 8 year old daughter and me) did this trail because you are "supposed" to, it seemed. It was much more interesting than I anticipated! Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, and it was more "hands-on" than your typical American tour (i.e. we got to touch the equipment, sample the raw beans, etc.). You also get to make... This tour is just awesome! I guides are great, funny and know so much! You get to learn about about some really cool things that have been super important for Costa Rican history, ride in a ox cart, taste everything along the way, get fabulous views of Monteverde and maybe even see a sloth and some cool birds! If you... More

I took a tour with El Trapiche with a large group, it was a very informative and fun tour of chocolate, sugar cane and coffee. The guide was very fun all the time, sadly I can't remember his name but I will always remember his great sense of humor and knowledge.

This was a wonderful tour. Our guide took our group of 4 through the coffee plantation and explained everything to us. He answered lots of questions and his English was very good. The plantation also grew sugar cane and they are experimenting with growing cocoa plants. We got to see the whole process of making coffee, sugar cane juice extraction,... More

I visited El Trapiche with my husband and two children aged 7 and 8 years old. We had a brilliant couple of hours learning about the process of making coffee from plant to cup, how to make chocolate and how to extract sugar from sugar cane. Our tour guide was Oscar, who was brilliant and very knowledgeable about each process.... More

Even though I don't drink coffee, I know Costa Rica is renowned for their coffee production so figured it'd be worth a visit (plus my wife loves coffee). The tour was also intriguing because it had two other components as well - sugar cane and chocolate! Overall, our tour was pretty interesting and informative. Our guide, Oscar, is the nephew... I can say this was our favorite experience while at Monteverde. This tour is run by a family and this shows in the process...they do this with tons of fun, care and love. They let you taste and try the process and products of making coffee, chocolate and processing of sugar cane. We learned a lot about these three products... More

This turned out to be great fun and exceed all expectations. The drop-off at a roadside building holds little promise. But as you hike through the property (easy hike) you see and learn about coffee growing, picking, cleaning, and roasting. We learned about sugar cane, and saw an ox-driven trapiche, the pressing machine to extract juice from the sugar cane.... More

Really enjoyed this tour. Is in a very scenic setting and guide did a very good job of keeping everyone interested in the coffee, cacao and sugarcane processes! Highly recommend.

We hadn't planned on doing this tour & I'm so glad we did! It was one of the best tours we did while in Costa Rica. Oscar was our tour guide & he did a great job of explaining all the different processes on the farm. Our only mistake was we wore sandals & our feet were SO dirty at... More
