Description: The Koekelberg Basilica ranks fifth among the world's largest churches...
The Koekelberg Basilica ranks fifth among the world's largest churches, after the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Paix in Yamoussokro on the Ivory Coast, St Peter's in Rome, St Paul's in London and Santa Maria Dei Fiori in Florence.Today, the church is in the first place a place of prayer for peace. The church is still used for celebrations of the parish or for big national celebrations. But the basilica is more than that. The basilica has also an important cultural function. It’s a magnificent Art Deco monument, there are two museums, there are yearly different expositions and you can enjoy a wonderful view over Brussels!

Very impressive from any distance, but especially from the green space in front of it. Very quiet and peaceful. Did not go to the top as we were a bit in a hurry and there were no signs to point to the escalator.

i would recommend a visit to the Basilica it definately is impressive. The fifth largest church in the world . definately take a stroll up through the tree lined Koekelberg Park to the Basilica. I am sure you will take lots of photos along the way and the views from the steps of the basilica down to the city are... More

Best reached by taking the metro to Simonis/Elisabeth, and walking through the park. As you approach it its sheer size becomes apparent...it's the 5th largest cathedral in the world. The inside is not as ornate as the St. Michael & St, Gudula Cathedral in the centre of Brussels, but impressive nonetheless. It's well worth paying the €5 entrance fee to... More

The basilica is worth a visit if you're in Brussels. It dominates the landscape and is pretty impressive - very big with bright green roof. The walk from Elizabeth metro stop goes through the lovely, well landscaped, park which is nice and makes for good photos. Inside it isn't very decorative but its scale is impressive. Free for the ground... More

I would recommend taking a bus or tram from the market. We walked and its further than it looks. The building itself is beautiful...from the outside. The inside is non-climatic. Make sure you go all the way around the building because it looks closed from the front.

My title basically says it all. Huge Basilica and so much to see inside, even a restaurant! Greatest thing was that for 5€ you get a lift to the top, from there you have 360 degree views overlooking Brussels. So go there when it's sunny and avoid peak hours, so you don't have to wait in queues.

Another must for any visitor to Brussels, only a short taxi or train ride away, we were told that the views were amazing, such a large church, l enjoyed the visit as much as St Peters in Rome, you just have to see for yourself

The Basilica is great! Rebuilt after being destroyed in 1905, it has the elegance of the prior centuries, but has realistic imperfections to show authenticity. A must see if you visit Belgium

The basilica itself is great but i liked the view on the top the best. It's really magnificent, at clear days you can see a lot of Brussels.
