Owner description: The Koekelberg Basilica ranks fifth among the world's largest churches, after the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Paix in Yamoussokro on the Ivory Coast, St Peter's in Rome, St Paul's in London and Santa Maria Dei Fiori in Florence.Today, the church is in the first place a place of prayer for peace. The church is still used for celebrations of the parish or for big national celebrations. But the basilica is more than that. The basilica has also an important cultural function. It’s a magnificent Art Deco monument, there are two museums, there are yearly different expositions and you can enjoy a wonderful view over Brussels!

Visited the Basilica on the 17th December, 2014 - the best experience during my 4 day stay in Brussels. We approached this massive art deco edifice in the gloom of the evening, a time of day which was completely in harmony with the sombre style of the building. The Basilica is a bold architectural statement, whose impact has not lessened,... More

It was better inside than it looked from the outside. Worth seeing on the way back from the Atomium.

My wife and I went here on our way to the Atomium. Metro Line 6 to Simonis puts you close to Elisabeth Parc, a nice walk up to Sacre Coeur. (An easy stroll of around 10 minutes). It's a huge building, very imposing (you can see it from right across the city at the EU centre) and impressive as you... More

The scale of this church and the time it took to build (70 years!) is mind-boggling. There isn't anything else in the area to see, although it's a maybe worth a detour if you're off to the Atomium. It looks impressive as you walk towards it and it does have a kind of brooding presence. The interior however disappointed me... More

To be honest. I followed the advices on TripAdvisor . I stayed outside the building to admire the impressive architecture that I like it.

There were very few tourists when we arrived. It was very nice to be there and walk around. The weather was really good and we enjoyed being there and taking pictures of the church and Brussels. The view of the city was amazing!

I've been told that the Koekelberg Basilica is a landmark that is grossly ignored by visitors to Brussels... and it shouldn't be! I was entranced by the unique architecture of the basilica; the art deco influences make for a truly unique church in contrast to the multitude of Gothic / Renaissance / Middle Age churches found all over Europe. And... More

I really recommend a visit, and definitely pay the 5 euros and go up the tower - much better views than the Atomium! the basilica really is something else and will definitely be very different to any other church or basilica you will have seen!
