Description: The Koekelberg Basilica ranks fifth among the world's largest churches...
The Koekelberg Basilica ranks fifth among the world's largest churches, after the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Paix in Yamoussokro on the Ivory Coast, St Peter's in Rome, St Paul's in London and Santa Maria Dei Fiori in Florence.Today, the church is in the first place a place of prayer for peace. The church is still used for celebrations of the parish or for big national celebrations. But the basilica is more than that. The basilica has also an important cultural function. It’s a magnificent Art Deco monument, there are two museums, there are yearly different expositions and you can enjoy a wonderful view over Brussels!

It is quite easily accessible from Simonis metro station. You can choose to walk through Elizabeth park or take a tram which stops right near the basilica Entry is free and very good glass window frescos are there. Climbing to the roof of the basilica costs €5 and can give a good view towards the brussels city center and also... More

It's the biggest art-deco monument in the world. Enter is free. If you want to see the stunning city panorama (what I recommend) it will cost you something (there was a discount when having Brussels Card) - but it was no big deal. Be sure to check Basilica's website because it can be closed due to works. Basilica can be... More

Inspired by the Sacre-Coeur in Paris, this huge structure is the 5th largest church in the world, and the largest art deco building in the world... a must see! The church is free entrance, but if you're willing to pay a few euros you can go up to the dome for views across the city. Slightly outside of the city... More

I visited the Basilica de Koekelberg in 2007 during free time on a business trip. Walking up from the heart of Brussels, through Parc Elisabeth, it really is a spectacular trip. The building itself is fantastic and looks timeless, even though I've come to understand it was built in more recent times. The park is beautiful and would be somewhere... More

The structure was visible from far off and the colored domes looked beautiful as well. The visit was well worth and its actually quite big when you get nearer. The park nearby was good as well, just stay off the park late in the evening as most people told us that its note safe to hang out there after dark.

My hostel (which was really nice and friendly) was located 10 min walk away from the basilica. I spent my first night in Brussels there, and it was a great place to space out.. (but don't go there at night, I was warned after spending some night alone there that it was not safe to be around at night especially... More

Unfortunately we only had time in the evening to visit the Basilica, so we could not go inside. However, the colossal building is impressive from outside and we'll certainly be back one day to see the inside.

This was a stop on a tour I was on. I thought it was strange that they would think people would want to go inside of a church, but followed along. Oh my goodness this was the most beautiful church I have ever seen. We took an elevator up, walked the length of the church to another elevator and took... More

This is the 5th biggest church in the world and well worth a visit. The view walking towards the basilica is lovely and the park itself is beautiful. The church is beautiful from the outside but we were unable to visit the inside as there was a wedding going on at the time. Would love to visit again to see... More
