Simply wonderful: incredible permanent collection and Piano's structure that exploit natural light without aid of artificial lights. Lovely garden outside. Do not miss current exhibition of Gerard Richter

We took the number 6 tram just to see the Swiss countryside and randomly got off at the Beyeler Foundation stop. Being an art teacher, I decided to pay the 20 francs just to see what was inside. WOW. Eventhough I was severely underdressed and accidentally set off the alarm for getting too close to the Monet, I thoroughly enjoyed... More

We have been to many museums around the world, but none of them compared to the Beyeler! This is a very modern museum located in the suburbs of Basil on the number 6 line. We saw the current Gerhard Richter exhibit and loved the way they displayed his works and enjoyed the short movie showing him actually creating his pieces.... More

Housing the collection of the legendary gallery owner Ernst Beyeler, this museum built by the famed architect Renzo Piano is situated on the outskirts of town, around 20 minutes or so by tram from the city center. It currently (till September, I believe) shows a retrospective of Gerhard Richter, perhaps Germany's best known contemporary visual artist.

The building is designed by Renzo Piano and it is fantastic for a museum. The garden is spectacular. We were there during Art Basel and there were a lot of people. Only problem was to find place in the restaurant and to be served. We visited Gerhard Richter exposition which was very good. What is interesting for me was the... More

A magical place, the architecture of Renzo Piano, the park, the collection and each temporary exhibition that strikes at the heart. The exhibition Gerhard Richter (until September 7, 2014) is simply amazing.

When you visit the Beyeler Foundation's expositions or collection, be sure you buy a combi railway ticket which covers the railway, tramway in Basel and the entry fees. This time we visited the Gerhard Richter exposition which was very rich covering several and highly varied stages of the artist's productive life. The exposition is much richer than the one presented... More

Nestled in a park, in the Basel suburb of Riehen sits the wonderful Fondation Beyeler museum. The building, designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, houses an outstanding private collection of 20th Century art that includes work by Monet, Cézanne, van Gogh, Léger, Lichtenstenstein, Warhol, Giacometti and an amazing 23 Picassos. There's also several tribal art objects on display. Photos were... More
