Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly. « less

We loved touring Blair Castle and the grounds. It is a beautifully maintained historic site with much to see and learn. We loved walking around the grounds, seeing the gardens, church ruins, and folley. If you are in the area, Blair Castle is a must see.

There were 10 of us visiting....including 4 grandchildren - ages - 8 - 9 - 10 -11....Usually the adults enjoy visiting a castle with the history and stories told by the guides....but for kids....it tends to get boring after half an hour....While the adults did enjoy the castle and history....The kids were also kept interested { which helped the adults... We stayed in Pitlochry which was ideal for the horse trials. Only 8 miles away and didn't touch the busy A9 so no queues for us. The course was challenging. The scenery fantastic. Plenty of trade stands with lots of choice. 2015 is the European Championships at Blair so looking forward to that. The Castle was lovely, didn't go in... More

whilst on holiday with my niece and great niece, we took a visit to the castle. On entry the rooms are astounding. Swords, rifles, shields, portraits and literally hundreds upon hundreds of stags heads line the walls no matter where you walk. Its an interesting look into family history, war time history and generally how others lived. Well worth a... More

A beautiful castle with extremely interesting history. As many antlers as you can imagine; good cafe and beautiful highland gardens. Well worth a visit. Pipers paling sometimes - excellent

Although not really a castle in a traditional sense, Blair castle was a very interesting and beautiful place. The inside of the castle was very nicely kept and presented with many old objects including weapons and china plates. The staff were all friendly and helpful and seemed to know their stuff. It took a little less than an hour to... More

We were fortunate to be here on a beautiful sunny day. The castle was closed; can't remember why. The grounds are marvelous if the weather is good. We spent so much time in the woods and the ruined church that we did not have time for Hercules Gardens. Some friends, who managed their time more wisely, said Hercules Gardens was well... More

Blair castle has lots of history. It is, however, not really a family seat. The present Duke of Atholl and his family live in South Africa and barely visit the castle. What it has become is a well-oiled machine for tourists. On arrival, we were greeted by a young man in tartan trews who welcomed us and told us what... More

Hard to arrange to order in Scotland I know but try to go on a sunny day so you can take a picnic; the gardens are stunningly lovely and deserve time to be spent in them! I think its good value as tickets cost less than a tenner and there are concessions. This castle is run by a charitable trust... More

Don't be put off by the queue that forms at the car park entrance. This is caused by one guy sitting in the hut issuing tickets while another guy walks to your vehicle, sorts out tickets then gets your tickets from the guy in the hut! I am sure there must be an easier way? Once that is over with... More
