Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly. « less

We only had time to do the castle, though I wish we would have skipped Queen's View and did the gardens here. There are NO pictures in the castle and there are many signs in the front--as well as the people constantly reminding you--that there are no pictures. That didn't stop some people and it was a little annoying but... More

It was raining when we visited so the gardens were out. The castle was very welcoming, as were the guides, nothing was too much trouble and explained any question fully. The caste is well laid outand you followed the arrows from room to room. The food in the large resturant was well cooked and very delicious and generous portions. All... More

We visited the castle and grounds in July. The castle is very interesting and everything is laid out and described well. In M's view the only drawback is they did not allow photographs but that happens all over world. Cafe reasonably priced and good

One of the best Castles I have visited, staff very helpful and informative, the self tour is extensive with the gardens breathtaking.Castle has a good gift shop and a lovely bright and spacious cafe- a value for money tourist attraction which you should allow a full day to explore and enjoy.

Unfortunately the castle was closed when we got there, but it is the ONLY place in the Highlands that we saw the hairy cattle. There were 2 cows located in a pasture near the castle gate (specifically, in front of the Blair Castle Caravan Park, across from the Atholl Country Life Museum).

More of a mansion than a castle to me, the self tour is very organized as u stroll thru the house. Can be historically interesting but just me I dislike seeing the wealth of a few having been created by the poor. True historically, the castle presents lots of information but just not for me.

Blair Castle is like looking at a fairy tale. One could imagine Rapunzel up in the turret letting down her golden hair. The grounds and gardens are stunning. The entrance price is 9.40 pounds or 8.30 pounds for seniors. A must to visit!

We only visited the grounds, but they were very pleasant. The Hercules Gardens were the undoubted highlight. The scale and the quality of the planting in the herbaceous beds were a revelation. The outside of the castle looked superb and the piper playing outside was very impressive.

Worth the price of admission if just to see the ceiling work on some rooms. Lots of collections worth a Museum. If you want to visit a Castle this one and Scone were our favorites. I would skip Balmoral.
