Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly. « less

The castle was truly impressionable with the white color and all the weapon-try hanging on the walls in the main entrance lobby, to all the deer antlers in the hallways and ballroom, and to know that Queen Victoria used to travel from Balmoral to this castle to visit her closet friend !! We wondered where the kitchen was as we... More

My boyfriend and I took the train from Pitochry to Blair Atholl which is only a 10 min Journey and £5.00 pound return. When you get off the train you have to cross the bridge and when you leave Blair Atholl station please turn right and walk along the road and the Castle is on your left, you have to... More

We enjoyed exploring Blair Castle as well as wandering the grounds. The woods provided an especially nice walk. There is no photography allowed in the castle except for one room; I love to take photos so I was a little disappointed but enjoyed our visit nonetheless.

This is definitely one of the best castles in Scotland with the most interesting collection of exhibits and family history. Very good value for money and I recommend the brand new guide book we got, first day of publication apparently, which was really informative. You could easily spend the day here to fully explore the whole site. Nice café and... More

imho i would say this is an alright attraction for learning the history about the castle, or you can pay for a guided tour which people speak to a whole group off about fifteen people, i visited a few castle's and this is my experience off most off them , but it would be ok if they told you before... A superb value for money day out. The castle itself is full of rooms open to the public, exhibits and history. The exhibit labelling and information cards are excellent and the attendants are happy to answer any outstanding questions. The grounds and the Hercules Garden are equally worth visiting, again with trees and plants well labelled. There is also a... More

This castle was very well preserved and well organized for visits. There were numerous rooms and floors to see. Mostly original furnishings were kept in very good condition. There were people on hand to give a lot of information about the history of the castle, even down to details such as the clocks being set and the details of the... More

This castle was one of the best we have visited. It was so interesting and lots of furniture to see. The tearooms were very good if a bit pricey, Toilets clean with a choice of two locations. The gardens were lovely., also a piper was playing which made the atmosphere feel even more scottish. There are a couple of flights... More
