Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly.

Friday 24 April Just returned from my fourth tour with Heart of Scotland. We started with a stop in the village of Dunkeld. Next stop was Blair Castle. The grounds were magnificent. Upon entering the Castle, one is awed by the display of guns, swords, shields and much more. The bedrooms, sitting room, dining rooms are breath taking. The china... More

The ancestral home of the Murray family is excellently presented, with comprehensive information notices, and friendly , knowledgeable Guides strategically located. The Hercules Garden is still work in progress, but it will be magnificent.

Nice castle and grounds. In April 2015 the entrance fee is GBP10.50. Nicely furnished, lots of information, very friendly staff. Lots of rooms to see, old paintings, crockery, armour, pictures. Hercules garden is well kept and offers a picturesque walk.

Before visiting any attraction I like to pick up a leaflet about it or google it to know what to expect and what to look out for but I wasn't prepared for the first impression of Blair Castle! One expects a castle to be dark and rugged both inside and out but Blair Castle is bright white and some people... More

We pre booked our afternoon ride (as you would expect) and were greeted by Debbie and her colleague. They spent a lot of time ensuring we understood how the stables work and that we had the right equipment and clothing. They checked our riding ability to ensure we were given the pony to suit each one of us. Then one... More

I don't begrudge the GBP9.00 paid for the entrance fee, but I was very disappointed by how little has been done to make this attraction memorable in a positive way. And photos are not allowed to be taken inside, except in the ballroom, which has little to lend itself for photographing.

Visiting Blair Castle for the first time and we approached through an avenues of trees along the driveway. The welcome was good from the entry staff although we had to get out of the car to pay and this might be a problem if busy. It was quiet when we visited early in the day. Parking was good with clear... More
