Description: Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the...
Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly.

The gardens were beautiful and the self-guided tour goes through many rooms, providing value for money. The art collection was especially informative and interesting. Very good, clean, modern visitors centre with a good range of food. If you liked this, I'd also recommend Traquair House in the Scottish Borders, which provided a similar level of interest.

This castle was full of all kinds of interesting things - weapons, curios, art and furniture, as well as interesting architecture, all things that just begged to have their pictures taken. Unfortunately, no photos were permitted anywhere in the castle (except in the ballroom, which was boring), for no discernible reason. This made a visit to the castle a deeply... More

Excellent well set out castle exhibition of fascinating historical value.Staff [Even the non Scots} were well informed and approachable. Questioned the £10:50 entry fee initially but if you take the time to maximise your visit it is good value. Coffee shop sold nice refreshments but a tad on the expensive side.

We easily spent an afternoon in the house and gardens. There's plenty to see and lots of guides to explain the features in each room. The gardens are extensive and well worth the time it takes to wander through them.

Exceded our expectations by a mile. The castle and grounds were stunning and all of us were so happy we visited. The staff-especially one woman Mo-were on hand to answer all our questions and help bring the castles history alive. A walk to the Hercules garden finished a great visit.

This is a wonderful castle set in a quaint village and in stunning gardens. If you enjoy military history, then the collection of over 500 historic firearms will excite you. Not to mention swords, armour and medals ... Dozens of rooms full of antique furniture and art ... Knowledgeable guides are on hand in virtually every room. Many can speak... More

This is a fabulous place - I like strolling through the gardens best, although sitting out on the terrace with a cup of tea on a sunny day takes some beating! I've never bothered with the castle tour - not interested in old swords and shields - but the setting is magnificent, as sre the lime trees that line the... More

The re-establishment of the Hercules Gardens is a wonderful thing. We've enjoyed many gardens in Scotland and this one is unique. It's story is also interesting. We visited 24 years ago and the garden was new to us this time. The castle is the same, however, it is still used and recent upgrades (restaurant/tea room and meeting area) will keep... More
