Owner description: Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly.

We were met at reception. The walls are covered with all sorts of weapons. Amazing! It is possible to buy a guidebook here, however, we chose to just use the information cards in each of the rooms. There were also some beautiful tapestries. We ended our visit with a lovely cup of coffee in the tea rooms

This is a beautiful Castle with expansive gardens and wild deer. Also excellent tour guides with a tot of whiskey on entry as a welcome.. There are numerous rooms inside the castle with an excellent restaurant. Most rooms are open to the general public, where you can walk around at your leisure. Numerous exhibits well worth looking at.

We happened to visit the weekend of the fiddle and bagpipe championships. We visited the castle on the Friday and toured the castle rooms and the Hercules garden. There are lots of rooms to see and the garden is beautiful even on a dull day. The food in the restaurant was very good and well priced, also gluten free choice.... More

This was a morning excursion with our L&G coach trip. Really interesting outside as well as inside. Welcoming and informative staff and the exhibits and rooms were laid out just as you would expect with information boards in every room. Lots of history and paintings to see. The house was tastefully decorated for Christmas in all rooms and made it... More

I had donned my comfortable shoes & I'm very pleased I did. We walked all around, up & down, inside & out of this castle. This is a must for everyone who wishes to appreciate the jewels of bonny Scotland. The furniture, guns & battle armour is something to behold. Absolutely wonderful. The guides on every floor - a mine... More

Seeing the beautifully kept grounds, and the gardens, being stared at by placid highland cattle are all part of the special experience that is visiting the Castle. I am used to getting hotter and hotter as I go round air conditioned and central heated museums so I low most of my layers of warm clothing in the car. However, be... More
