Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly.

I have visited this attraction a couple of times and I was equally impressed with my second visit. To me it comes across as more of a stately home than your "castle with parapets". The house is well laid out with a most impressive foyer, packed with "yesterday's" weapons (swords, muskets, armour etc.). You are channelled to a route that... More

This was a fantastic family day out and a great place to visit. The staff were excellent and highly attentive. We were visiting with our son who is in a pram and everyone went out of the way to make us welcome and be helpful. I would love to go back and stay for longer

We visited the gardens only but will be back to see the castle soon! The gardens alone are well worth a visit and represent good value as well as being dog-friendly. Beautifully kept gardens and impressive conifers in Diana's Grove make for a superb and easy walk.

I recently visited with my Chinese friend and her family who were touring the UK. When we got to the area I asked if the information was in Mandarin/Cantonese and was told it was in Chinese. On that basis we all paid the entrance fee 2 x adults, 1 x child and 2 x seniors. Sadly once we were inside... More

The gardens are extensive and varied. We began with a walk through Diana's wood and then Hercules garden. A fairly long walk but there's so much to see, from specimen trees to swans to a huge walled garden sanctuary. The castle is a must see. It has a long and fascinating history tied to the struggle for Scottish independence. Beginning... More

Castle easily accessible. Lot to see with some glorious furniture and tapestries. Family history well explained. Lots of royal links. That was the castle expert. The gardener found the walled garden disappointing as walled gardens go.

We took our time around the Castle and sat outside enjoying the loan piper. Cafe was good and then time to stroll through the tall trees and wander in peace and tranquility through the beautiful walled garden. A wonderful day out.

Well maintained rooms with relevant history information in each room. No photography permitted except at the ball room. Disappointed to have missed a bagpiper in full kilt playing in the castle grounds...guess he was on a break. Not much impressed with Hercules garden though, I must say. Tried the Tea Room...scones not what we were expecting, but the scottish shortbread... More

Amazing collection of swords and shields, plus loads of interesting information about the history of the Atholl families. Excellent small restaurant / cafe with home made food. The whole place is full of original furniture immaculately clean and in pristine condition! The Hercules garden is a huge walled garden packed with interest - borders, lakes, follies, sculptures and wildlife. Well... More

We had a great day out the castle was so full of interesting pieces and information you could spend a whole day in there. The grounds were lovely and the trees in the Diana wood were amazing, we ran out of time so did not see the Hercules garden. We had a snack in the restaurant and it was so... More
