Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly. « less

We only visited the gardens and were lucky enough to have fantastic weather. The man at the entrance taking the entrance fee was very pleasant and friendly. Gardens consist of a woodland walk through Diana's Grove where you can see some very tall Douglas Firs. There is also a small ruined chapel at the end. Hercules gardens are more formal... More

Visited the gardens today with a friend. We walked around the very attractive walled garden. A few weeds here and there but that is allowed in such a large space. Lots of interesting planting groups. At £5.45 a head you would need to spend some time here. There are other walks throughout the grounds so you could, potentially, spend a... More

We have been before and visited the castle (which is great) this time we concentrated on the gardens. There is a walk through the woods and lovely formal gardens as well. I like the sculpture that is dotted throughout. It is great to see the traditional pieces but also there is more modern pieces which are well chosen and placed... More

This 700 year old castle is in the hilly countryside (145,000 acres) north of Stirling midway between the lowlands and highlands. Relaxing for a stroll thru Scottish gardens. This is a working farm. The house has centuries of portraits from the time of James V of Scotland or James I of England to the present as well as many family... More

I hadn't been to the Castle for many years so was looking forward to visiting again as it's always been a place I've loved and have happy memories of. It did not disappoint. Having been there as a child with my parents and now returning as a parent with my children, it was everything I remembered and much more. A... More

The castle has a lot of stuff to see. You are not allowed to take pictures though (except in the big ball room). The gardens have a lot of huge Wellington trees and different kinds of firs and other trees and plants in it. They are a beautiful view.

Blair Castle and Hercules Gardens are a must for anyone visiting this area. We were in a party of 5 (4 adults and one child) and spent a wonderful day at Blair Castle and the gardens. The castle itself is to my mind an absolute delight, with superb staff in attendance to make your tour of the castle most enjoyable.... More

Blair Castle: We only visited the grounds. Extensive well attended grounds, deer park with red deer roaming nearby. Extensive visitor centre with adequate food. Bag piper gave local flavour.

A beautifully preserved and presented interior and exterior, this was a memorable visit which gave us a great insight into how it was used and the living conditions of the time.

Touring Blair Castle and the Hercules Gardens was part of our Highlands Tour of Scotland, and was certainly one of the high points! The castle is in amazing shape, but leaves an interior section of wall exposed so you can see the actual stone construction. Look close at the hundreds of mounted deer heads throughout the castle. Each includes a... More
