Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly. « less

We visited Blair Castle and enjoyed not only visiting inside the castle but the grounds were stunning. The forests and gardens were well worth spending time in and the setting of the castle at the end of the long drive was absolutely stunning. We very much enjoyed the piper outside and all the exhibits were laid out well and fun... More

On the southern edge of the Cairngorms National Park near to the village of Blair Atholl stands the beautiful Blair Castle. The attractive building dates back to the late 13th century with it's remaining Comyn’s Tower since when many structural changes have taken place throughout the years to create its present form in the late 1800’s, a unique, almost perfect... I have visited several castles and this one has a special charm. The managers have a good eye for detail, like a piper outside the castle playing, its such a nice way of receiving visitors! The place is well maintained (being a white building I can just imagine how difficult it must be) and also the gardens are very well... More

Our second visit here. We remember being herded through the castle with crowds of other visitors listening to a guide. This time we enjoyed the opportunity to stroll leisurely round the property and to take our time to read the notices and admire the rooms. Much improved - but we felt the guides did not interact well with visitors. They clearly... More

The castle was really interesting but I kept getting distracted by the stunning scenery. Really enjoyed our coffee in the cafe and the gardens were a real credit. I could have sat in Autumn sunshine for hours here. Would definately recommend a trip here.

We visited friends who have a static caravan on the Blair Atholl Castle Caravan Park. We decided after a late lunch to walk through the woods and Hercules Gardens before visiting the Cstle. We enjoyed the walk so much through the interesting woods looking at some of the tallest trees in the Uk and then enjoyed our stroll through the... More

As we had free entry to the castle and grounds included in the price of our stay in the caravan park, I can’t complain about the cost of entry! If I’d had to pay, I would say that the cost to enter just the grounds (£5.45) is a bit on the steep side. I got a bit bored in the... More

Impressive from afar, and just as impressive up close - both inside and outside. Self guide, but with helpful attendants in many of the key rooms. A great collection of family paintings, and some good furniture and other artefacts. Towards the end, there were almost too many small rooms to visit, and take in all the intems of interest. Best... Of all the castles we visited this one was was a take your breath away approach. The grounds, the whitewashed buildings all sort of connected each to the other, the clock tower, piper out front, cannons. A lot to take in and the same can be said for the inside tour. I happened to remark to a guide that the ancient... More

Weather was not very good with lots of rain,, but visit to the castle was a good option, there was plenty to see inside with some very helpful friendly staff. One of our party was disabled and it was great to find a place which catered for there needs, the price of the ticket was reduced considerably , and they... More
