Description: Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the...
Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly.

I found Blair Castle rather gloomy and depressing. Admittedly the weather was foul that day but even in blazing sunshine I think I'd find it hard to lift my spirits inside that house. The staff were very nice and helpful, especially a friendly waitress in the café where I had coffee and cake. I can't really recommend this place, however,... More

This would have cost twice as much if it was "down South". We spent a good couple of hours in the house and then a good hour going around the gardens. We'd have spent longer going around the ground if we'd not have walked some of them the day before. The house has at least a couple of dozen rooms... More

This tour included the castle and gardens. Both were very interesting and lots of information and artifacts available for viewing. Be reminded that there is only one guided tour @ 2:00 pm. There is a piper every hour on the hour and he pipes for 15 minutes. No pictures allowed in the castle except in the ballroom which is a... More

Amazing grounds and castle. This is definitely a must see in terms of castles. Built as a home rather than a fortress the castle has a different feel. The rooms that are open for your viewing are filled with original furniture and decorations that have their own stories to tell - but I love hearing about the people who lived... More

Lovely castle and gardens. Plenty photo opportunities. Staff very helpful. Reasonably priced. Now I've seen it though wouldn't need to visit again although the gardens would look different at various times of the year. If you like your history the castle is well worth a visit.

Apart from the castle, the gardens are lovely. The place is big and will take time for you to cover the whole place. There is an entry fee even if you do not want to enter the castle. The place is well maintained and i am told its a profit making estate. At the end of the day there are... More

Visited on a cold and very wet day. Toured the castle and had a lovely lunch. After a short walk outside had to caĺl it a day as just too wet. Payed an extra £1.50 to obtain an annual ticket. Reviited a few days later in the sun for a stroĺl around the gardens and grounds. Great value for money... More

Took in the tour of the castle as well as the gardens, found it very interesting with loads to see and read about, they also have a video showing in our of the side rooms, which was nice to sit and watch for a half hour. A piper plays in front for the caste few times during the afternoon which... More

A history and environmental experience. I learned more about Scottish history and entrepreneurial in a very informal delightful four hours. We needed two days to get around the gardens and castle. As we arrived the piper was at the entrance to the castle. There are guides but there is a self guiding system supported by videos and other information. 30... More
