Madu River is a wetland, near the Small town "Balapitiya" along the Colombo Galle highway. This is the point where the Estuary of the Madu river. The river flows through a terrain where it creates a large number of islands, and the eco system creates a beautiful wetland. The hotels around provide boat rids through the canals created at a good cost. And there are loads of places to stay, dine and wine.

We saw plenty of rivers as we travelled around but this one you can get close to, it seems clean and river safari we took to the wet lands was great. Loved seeing all the Irish boats donated after the Tsanami with people and place names on. The little beach where it joins the ocean is fabulous but watch the... More

It was all good though we did not opt to have our feet nibbled by the fish. Beautiful sun rise and seeing the birds still roosting. The visit to the cinnamon was interesting and the oil was worth buying.

A gorgeous way to spend a few hours. Yes you are encouraged to pay money along the way to pet the baby monkey and donate to the cinnamon farm, however it really is pence to us and is going to people who need the money a lot more! The scenery is beautiful and the mangroves are lovely.

We had a wonderful 14 days tour of Lnaka.. memorable one, when we reached this place for the boat safari , it was late afternoon, the staff welcomed us, and offer us a speed boat safari instead of regular boat, so we can tour before the darkness. which was an excellent idea, for Rs,4000/ we had the most wonderful tour,... You're in the heart of tourist country here, so be careful not to be taken advantage of for the cost of the trip as well as the stops along the way. We ended up with a boat to ourselves and were able to see mangrove swamps, a Buddhist temple, lots of wildlife, and island with wild cinnamon plants. A great... More

It was worth every penny. Immensely enjoyed sailing through the mangrove caves and the scenic beauty it offered. 1.5 hours sail taking us to the fish spa, and other islands. awesome experience.

Before booking a boat trip on Madu Ganga River you should clarify who your guide is and whether he speaks English. Furthermore you should ascertain that all spots you see on a written tour description and all entrance fees etc. are included. We had a bad experience with Sanuthi Boat House, ending up with our Tuc Tuc driver as organisor... More

When you have a car and driver for three weeks, you come to trust his suggestions, even though in the back of your mind you KNOW that there are kickbacks when you are steered to certain attractions and/or restaurants. It is the system, and it works for the most part. Compared to the terrible massage experience we had at Suwamedura... More
