The river flows through a terrain where it creates a large number of islands, and the eco system creates a beautiful wetland. If you want to see wildlife this is the tour. 6 foot long Monitor lizards, Cormorants, Kingfishers, humming bird and large fruit bats. Also locals showing how cinnamon is processed manually (on the main island), shrimp/prawn catching, buddist prayer islands, tunnels of mangrove roots. Great morning tour

We went for a boat safari on the river as part of our stay in Galle. It was a good experience sighting monitors and crocodiles in the river. The boat ride took us through mangroves which was a different experience. We saw some small crocodiles along the way...our 'guide', or the guy driving the motorboat took us to many places... More

We were charged $ 100 for boat ride which was not that great . Mangroves were not shown every opportunity some person was trying to force things such as baby monkey for 500 sl rs. Alligator for 500 sl rs. Etc. Don't get ripped off. We lodged a complain with our agent but was too little too late

We made this trip because I wanted to see the mangroves, even though we felt it was another tourist trap, but please don't go there! You won't miss anything but the money you gave for nothing... They tell you it's 1h30 boat ride, actually it lasts hardly 1 h. They tell you you'll see mangroves, actually you'll see the mangroves... More

Madu river safari is the must thing for do for people going to bentota, galle etc. It costs around LKR 2000 per person and they take you to cinnamon island, temple island. You can also experience holding baby crocodile in your hand.

This is a lovely boat ride along the Madu River about 10 mins away from the Heritance Ahungalla hotel. They go through mangroves along the river and go around several mini islands. The boat I recommend is handled by Ajith who works for Jayantha Boat Service. His number is 0723000109. Call him to arrange the time. The boat we took... More

There is Captain's place near the Madu river. They provide various sizes of boats for boat rides. For a small boat(about 9 people) it takes about Rs.2000. That's a very reasonable price. We were able to go about 2 hours safe boat trip. Can see a lot of nature here. And you can get a fish foot therapy here for Rs.200. It... More
