Charming village near the striking glacier

When you're going to Briksdalbreen, see the village! Getting there along the valley and river is part of the fun. It's a gem.

The small town of Olden lies at the furthest point inside of Norway's majestic Nordfjord. Although Olden is 65 miles from the open sea, Olden is still a jumping off place for water sports and activities of all kids. The Nordfjord is a short distance to Jostedal Glacier which is mainland Europe's largest & deepest lake. Olden is perfectly situated... More

Beautiful Norwegian nature. Really worth a visit. Mountains and fjords to be seen. Best by car, so you can drive around in the area.

We loved this hike. However, we would classify it as more strenuous than others have noted. There's a very nice trail, mostly gravel, but it is a very steep climb to the top. I work out with a trainer 4 days a week and walk a few miles daily, and this was no cake walk. My wife was arthritis and... More

A lovely tranquil spot, with pretty houses dotted on the green hillside. There are a few shops - mainly tourist items and walking gear, plus a cafe and shop at the head of the fjord. We walked into the village from our cruise ship moored about half a mile from the centre. The little wooden church is fascinating, its ceiling... More

Do you ever look at photos and think to yourself something as beautiful as that definitely does not exist? Well that's what I thought of Norway before I visited but all of Norway but especially Olden is absolutely breath-taking! We got bikes and cycled to the Glacier which I would highly recommend. The scenery makes you feel so humble as... More

Small village with one major attraction, the glacier about 1 hours journey from the ship. We took the small walley wagon for a ride to the countryside and seen some spectacular white river scenes. Not much to do in the village but a good place to visit. 4 stars.

Olden is one of my favourite places in Norway, it is quiet, tranquil and exceptionally clean, the people are very friendly and all in all you will feel at home. There are some places to eat and drink but as with all of Norway it can be costly. Little land trains run into the village centre from the port and... More

Visited here for the day on a cruise and was by far the most beautiful location. There is a great scenic walk along the main road and a little train to view the river and go around the village. There is not a great amount to do but would recommend hiring a bike (if weather permitting). This can be done... More

Olden is very delightful village set in green meadows that are ablaze with colourful flowers and babbling brooks meander between pretty houses the Olden valley is flanked by near vertical cliffs about 1700m high and sparkling glaciers 1500m up the valley is the Lokenfossen Waterfall.
