Summary - You get more than a standard cinema experience here, I absolutely love it, and don't mind driving 30 miles to visit, but the booking process is ridiculous. Pros: Beautiful art deco building Independently run Comfortable seating, including seating at tables, rather than in rows. Reasonable pricing A much better experience than visiting a corporate multiplex Cons: The incredibly... More

Just love this cinema, great films, excellent price especially if you go to matinees. The seats are so comfortable and cushions are provided for extra comfort. Because of its popularity it isn't always easy to get tickets for the evening but easier if you are able to go to matinees.

This was our first visit, having been put off by tales of how difficult it was to get tickets. I went on the first day of booking and found the queue stretching round the block and free coffee being served! When I got to the box office I counted 10 people taking internet, phone and personal bookings. We had good... More

Fantastic large, comfortable seats with loads of leg room, a glass of wine and a plate of cheese and biscuits. What else can you ask for in a cinema?.............the film was OK but who cares! Avoid the queues on opening morning and just book what us left in the afternoon. PS. Try the massive olives from Fennel deli in Lower... More

great atmosphere, friendly helpful staff who are passionate about movies and the REX. Love that I can have a bottle of wine and snacks whilst curling up to watch a great movie - almost like being at home but with a much bigger screen!

This is really the best cinema experience. You can relax in comfortable chairs whilst having a glass of wine or sit sround tables and eat. The cinema has been beautifully restored - a real gem. Only problem is trying to get tickets!

Went to the Rex theatre tonight with my family and had a very enjoyable evening. The whole idea is that it's an old fashioned theatre with big comfy red seats. I would definitely recommend sitting downstairs where there are 4 seats around a small table. You can purchase drinks, snacks and cheese board which I would also recommend. The atmosphere... More

Having been to The Rex a number of times now I continue to be impressed time after time, by the experience it offers. Big screen viewing with a nice glass of Rioja & a bowl of olives, what more could you want? As a St. Albans resident, I cannot wait for the new Rex to open up here, I hope... More
