Been here a few times over a few years. The first time, was seated at one of the tables (with beer/wine!). A very novel experience! The rest of the times, just sat in the normal rows! A very ornate Art Deco building. Planning our next trip later this month! Can't wait until the sister building in St Albans opens!

This is not a standard cinema and one you have to see for yourself. A great intro, spacious seats, a glass of wine or a beer and cheese and biscuits a must! You will never visit a typical cinema again!!!

It is the superb art deco style of this marvellous renovation that sets the scene for a unique experience. The slightly amateur atmosphere of the management adds to the chic atmosphere. It does not matter what the film is - the surroundings, cheese plate with the film and the bar open all through the performance that makes it. I bought... More

The Rex Cinema is a restored 1930's, Art Deco picture house in the centre of town. It is truly beautiful and such a different experience to watching a film in one of the multiplexes. Downstairs there are no rows of seats, but tables with comfortable chairs around them and a bar at the back. You can order a bottle of... More

A masterpiece in restoration and cinema-going. Tickets are hard to come by without persistence and only if you don't mind watching a film you are not fussed about. Bar in the foyer and auditorium - if possible go for the seats with tables downstairs, a whole new experience in cinema.

The restoration is amazing and the art deco style is wonderful. Very comfy seating. The bar downstairs serves food inside the cinima while the film is showing.

What a lovely night out!!! Other cinemas have a lot to learn from this place, in terms of cinematic experience. It is not a perfect set up admittedly, but at a time when the cinema industry is struggling to get people to go to the cinema instead of watch it on their 50" HD TV at home, then this place... More
