This park is easy to find. It's along the main road, a kilometer or so after you drive over the crocodile bridge, going south. You will know the crocodile bridge, because you'll see all the parked cars of tourists at either end of the bridge, and the stream of people walking to the middle of the bridge to look down.... More

We were only able to stop here briefly and as it was later in the day there were no guides available but even walking on our own we saw quite a bit of wildlife. The trails are well marked and easy to follow. There are a lots of signs on the trail (in the initial trail loop) which are helpful. We... More

We went in with Maurice and we have seen so many animals because of him. He takes his time to show you everything there is to see and has good gear. Also, he knows his birds!

This park was so much better than Manuel. You will not see many tourists, which obviously can be a plus and minus. At the park entrance we hired guide, both to spot wildlife and offer some security blanket. The guides in costa rica have a state certification. If is worth the 60 us we spent for three of us. Bring... More

If you go to Jaco you must go to Carara and if you go to Carara you must get Maurice as your guide. He has a cool telescope that he can take pics through with your iphone. Buying the tour guided by Maurice was the best money I spent in Costa Rica.

We went to Carara National Park because we had heard about the macaws there. Maurice offered to be our tour guide through the park. Not only did he take us through the park, but also to tour the north end (which is truly in the jungle!) and then to another location to see the macaws. We did not realize that... More

Carara is a wonderful park which varies on animals and birds seen by the time of day and the season of the year....

The Carara park , have a few trails one that is handicapped accessible and continues deep into the park . There is also a norther trail that we saw monkeys, bats, a variate of birds, not as many people take this trail . Be prepared to pay the nice man who is guarding the cars for safe keeping. We had... This park is underappreciated. It certainly will provide anyone interested in nature and particularly birds one of the best opportunities. The hikes are 2 to 3 hours, BUT you must take a guide. The guides are available from the main ticket office. Freddie and Mauricio seem to be the most popular. I have used both and they are fantastic.
