Summer is now firmly here to stay in the Cairngorms so why not take a visit to see Britain’s only free-ranging herd of reindeer in their natural habitat. Summer time is the time for shedding that thick winter coat, grazing and putting on weight for the reindeer as well as growing your new antlers for the year. Visits go every day at 11am and 2.30pm (additional 3.30 in July & August) at this time of year, follow a reindeer herder as you make your way up to the mountain enclosure, walk amongst reindeer, stroking and feeding them as the herder tells you more about them. Situated in the centre of the Cairngorms National Park, you will also enjoy beautiful views of the Cairngorm Mountains. The walk takes around 20 minutes and will cross some rough and muddy ground on the mountainside so make sure you’ve got some sturdy footwear and some nice cosy layers! Fancy something a wee bit different? During the summer we run half day reindeer treks across the lower slopes of the Cairngorms with an experienced herder. You will get the opportunity to lead your own reindeer as well as join onto one of our daily hill trips. Don't fancy the hill trip? For those less able, from Easter to New Year, we have a small group of reindeer in the paddock at the Centre itself. For younger visitors, there is a quiz, you can make your own badge, or make an antler headband.

Being a huge reindeer fan I loved coming to see the reindeer and hand fed them, our guide was really good and had a clear passion for the reindeer. She knew them all by name! The views are so spectacular and make it worth visiting even more. Really loved the chance to personally meet three week old Fergus the calf.... More

We took our 2 year old to see the reindeer. I carried him in a carrier on my back and it was a very easy hike to the enclosure. If you have mobility issues, it might be difficult but this is not a strenuous hike by any means. It probably would have taken us around 10 minutes to do on... More

I've been several times to visit the paddock with people visiting the area. Every time it's been great! Nice and cheap so you feel like you get your money's worth even if you don't stay for long. You get to see the animals up close and learn lots about them from the information given and from the knowledgable staff.

We went in to meet the reindeer and my kid was thrilled to feed and fleece them. We really thought that this is the house of Santa and wants to visit in December.

Although the Reindeer centre was quite interesting, the trip up the mountain was great. The short walk to the Reindeer herd was not challenging, and the relaxed experience of being amongst the herd was fantastic. The Reindeer are inquisitive, but docile and this is a great experience for young and old alike. Our guid, despite it being only her second... More

Me and my partner had a fantastic time at the Reindeer Centre! Very friendly staff with a wealth of information about their reindeer and the species natural history. We went on the hill tour to see the free range herd. Although it was a slightly drizzly and very windy day, it was an amazing experience. You really get to see... More

My family and I recently went to see the reindeers in Aviemore and were totally overwhelmed by the whole experience. We didn't expect to learn so much and thankyou to a lovely girl called Abby who did the tour, we came away with lots of knowledge on the life of the reindeers living in the Cairngorm. She was very patient and... Visited the Cairngorm Reindeer with my mother. We opted for a reindeer trek which involves a 3 hour walk across the hills and through the woods leading a reindeer. I loved every single minute and can't wait to go back (I'm aged 30!). It was so nice just to hangout with the reindeer and get up close with them. They... More

So pleased that I did this. Was a little worried that I would not be fit enough for the climb to see the reindeer but need not have worried. You need to take care and be sure footed but the excellent guide who sets the pace makes sure everyone is happy and goes slowly if there are any people lagging... More
