The cold season is here and the Cairngorms feels more like the arctic every day, the reindeer have grown in their thick winter coats to keep nice and cosy over the long winer. Why not take a visit to see Britain's only free-ranging herd of reindeer in their natural habitat. Visits go every day at 11am at this time of year, follow a reindeer herder as you make your way up to the mountain enclosure, walk amongst reindeer, stroking and feeding them as the herder tells you more about them. Situated in the centre of the Cairngorms National Park, you will also enjoy beautiful views of the Cairngorm Mountains. The walk takes around 20 minutes and will cross some rough and muddy ground on the mountainside so make sure you've got some sturdy footwear and some nice cosy waterproof layers! Don't fancy the hill trip? For those less able, from Easter to New Year, we have a small group of reindeer in the paddock at the Centre itself. For younger visitors, there is a quiz, you can make your own badge, or make an antler headband.

nice wee addition to our planned walk for the day was a trip up to the reindeer herd. the center is basic but gives a good history and understanding of the herd and animals. their keepers were good fun and led a good trip up to the paddock

This was a wonderful experience. We were travelling with our five-year-old grandson and I don't know who enjoyed it more - him or us. It was great to get up close enough to the reindeer to pat them. The guides were most informative and ensured that everyone had a chance to feed the reindeer as well. It's a bit of... More

Went here on Christmas Eve and it was really fantastic, the boys got to feed the reindeer, meet Santa and his Elves, do crafts, do a treasure hunt and find out all about the reindeer, next time I think we will do the hill trek as well!!

Where else can you do this in the UK. If you can, pick a nice day (i.e. one where the rain isn't coming down sideways), and take a gentle 15 minute walk over the bridge to the reindeer pen and spend up to an hour learning about these fantastic animals and hand feeding your favourites.

We went as family Christmas week . Tour cancelled due to bad weather. 4 in the feild feeding but no where to stand and watch them without getting wet through . Raining real heavy so would of been nice to see them in stables or have an outdoor shelter built to observe reindeer in feild .

Many thanks for your review, and I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your visit too much. We have had an incredibly wet winter so far, but the day you visited was, I think, only the second time we have had to cancel the hill tour in the last few months, due to the snow gates closing on the mountain road. Unfortunately... More

This is a really lovely experience when you go with the guides. You drive up to a car park in convoy following their van. You then have a 20-30 minute walk up and down the mountainside to get to the enclosure. The enclosure allows the reindeer to roam far and wide but that know what time the tour arrives with... More

We stopped here to go and "interact" with the reindeer. Though we missed the feeding tour - we were pretty excited to see reindeer up close in the paddocks. The informative displays and interactive activities is good...but there were only 4 reindeer in the paddock and they were lying in the far corner - which meant both the little kids... More

Many thanks for your review, and I'm sorry you were a bit disappointed with your visit to the reindeer paddocks. We rarely have more than 4 reindeer in the paddocks as it is too small for a bigger group, and their natural habitat is up on the mountains. We rotate the paddock reindeer with others from the herd up on... More

Beautiful highland scenery but quite a long drive from Edinburgh with speed restrictions where none are necessary. Very expensive for what you get.

Many thanks for your, rather unhelpful, review. Whilst we do value all feedback, I feel it is somewhat unfair to give us a rating which appears to be mainly based on our distance from Edinburgh, and the fact that the A9 has a speed limit. As far as I'm aware, so do all other roads in Scotland. You don't state... More

Doh! We were the stupid ones who visited this attraction on the day poor weather was forecast, along with about 40 other children and parents just before Christmas. Staff persevered valiantly but the blizzard was too much for our 5 year old, although he enjoyed the Christmas theme in the paddock area. I would suggest to staff that on busy... More

Many thanks for your review, and I hope you still enjoyed your visit to the reindeer, even though the weather was less than desirable. Thanks for your suggestion of splitting the group, and we do occasionally do this when we have enormous numbers of people of busy days, However, all the feed for the reindeer that is put out in...
