Summer is now firmly here to stay in the Cairngorms so why not take a visit to see Britain’s only free-ranging herd of reindeer in their natural habitat. Summer time is the time for shedding that thick winter coat, grazing and putting on weight for the reindeer as well as growing your new antlers for the year. Visits go every day at 11am and 2.30pm (additional 3.30 in July & August) at this time of year, follow a reindeer herder as you make your way up to the mountain enclosure, walk amongst reindeer, stroking and feeding them as the herder tells you more about them. Situated in the centre of the Cairngorms National Park, you will also enjoy beautiful views of the Cairngorm Mountains. The walk takes around 20 minutes and will cross some rough and muddy ground on the mountainside so make sure you’ve got some sturdy footwear and some nice cosy layers! Fancy something a wee bit different? During the summer we run half day reindeer treks across the lower slopes of the Cairngorms with an experienced herder. You will get the opportunity to lead your own reindeer as well as join onto one of our daily hill trips. Don't fancy the hill trip? For those less able, from Easter to New Year, we have a small group of reindeer in the paddock at the Centre itself. For younger visitors, there is a quiz, you can make your own badge, or make an antler headband.

What a great little centre! The kids loved the little treasure hunt and activity sheet. It was too wet to attempt the hill climb and our kids were a little young. Whilst the paddock and huts are looking a little tired, it still holds the kids attention and so lovely to see the reindeer.

We had a lovely time here with the Reindeer. The grandchildren had a wonderful time reading about them, and looking for clues to fill their work sheets, and were delighted to see a baby reindeer. It is being hand reared as unfortunately his mother had died when he was only a few days old. We then went up the hill to feed the reindeer,it... More

The journey was so worth it to see these beautiful reindeer roaming free. The staff were very knowledgable and helpful. The reindeer were so friendly and keen for us to feed them. Very small children may find them a little overwhelming with their antlers but they are very gentle and you don't have to get up close. Stunning scenery too.... More

This is highly recommended. A cheap ticket (~£3.50) will get you into the paddock which has heaps of information on the reindeed, as well as 4 adult reindeer. There was also a baby reindeer there which my nephew was allowed to stroke. He loved the little elf house as well. To follow this up you can visit the male reindeer... More

Visited the paddock to see reindeer and look at the history of the herd in Scotland. Paddock is small but packs a lot in with the museum and children's treasure search (find those pesky gnomes/elves!) The herder in the shop was brilliantly well informed and answered all questions from both my youngest and myself.

The deers were very close to us. The young girl, who was the warden was very helpful, and was very professional with a nice sense of humour. She always kept an eye on the deer and the little kids and made sure all of us were safe.

Bit of a tricky walk to get to the deer but worth it. They were really placid and gentle to feed. The view from the hill was beautiful and the staff were really knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Had a great time here!

Kids (6,9) and myself absolutely loved this trip, bit of a trek to find the reindeers which are in an enclosed area on the hill. Make sure you have walking boots on. Our group leader was fun and she was very informative and enthusiastic (not sure how many of these talks she does every week)! Def give it a go... More

Just popped in here to pass some time and was very pleasantly surprised. Very friendly welcome and my daughter was made most welcome and given an activity booklet to enhance her visit. Plenty of information and stuff to keep her interested. Lovely to see these gorgeous animals close up.

Visited here as our daughters Rainbow group had adopted a Reindeer. It is a bit unprepossessing from the outside and the receptionist didn't fill us with expectation though the person on the way out was much better. There is a quiz for children - took quite a lot of effort to complete - and you get a souvenir badge of... More
