Although there was a lot of restoration work which limited our visit, the church is still an awesome sight. The interior of the church remains beautiful if a bit tired.

Seems like they don't care about visitors, for 8 lei per person you just get your shoes dirty because everything worth seeing is closed even the tower. So please don't bother.

Restoration work is essential and inevitable but did rather interfere with the overall enjoyment. We were unable to walk up the covered approach and the bell tower was out of bounds. Why was one of the carpenters wearing a Royal Mail polo shirt? Nevertheless this is a biggest and best of the fortified churches and as the seat of the... More

I was looking forward to going to Biertan for quite some time and I finally managed to put together a 4-days trip in Transilvania and went to visit the church. It was amazing to be in the church, the feeling is majestic, the details of the place are great and even though it is being renovated we were able to... More

Renovation was being carried out but it was on of the most expensive sites we had been to in Romania. Go to Viscri which is much better.

I think that avi_w669 from Israel or refers to another place, or nobody explained what is at Biertan, because the architectonic ensemble from Biertan impresses by a harmonious matching in locality, by its esthetic and historic value and especially by the original substance preserved since the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century, characteristics which... One of the better Fortified Churches in Transylvania and one of the UNESCO world Heritage listed "Fortified Churches of Transylvania". A magnificent church which was the seat of the Bishop in Transylvania. for almost 300 years. It has particularly interesting features including the Door to the Treasury, and the Matrimonal Prison. An easy excursion from Medias or Sighisoara. A bit... More

We hired a driver-guide to take us on a tour of the fortified churches around Sighisoara and Biertan was the location which made the most remarkable impression on us ! This Saxon fortified church is a good state of conservation and work is continually being performed to improve it ! Unfortunatly , there was no guide available as it would... More

We visited this fortified church as part of an organised tour of Romania. We were so glad we did. The church is beautifully restored and has a "genuine" feel about it. The history of the town and fortified church is similar to many parts of Transylvania, but this one has not yet been discovered by the hordes of tourists we... More
