I bought a ticket in Usaquen train station at Bogota, they provides you with all that you need to get to Zipaquira, by train, then by bus from Cajica town (You can get more info about the train schedules, prices, and services in internet Turistren). Train leaves at 9:15 am. The best option is to choose window to have a... More

I must admit, I tend to be a sucker for some of this touristy sites, so I had to go at least see this. Overall: meh I'm not saying it wasn't kinda cool but there really wasn't much to see but a bunch of salt crosses and mine shafts. Which were not ugly and the main cross was cool with... More

Eighth wonder of the world? Please! I would recommend a trip ONLY if you have nothing else to do (sleep, for instance). Apparently inspired by the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland (which is, deservedly, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and worth a trip to see), the Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirá simply lacks the historical interest of Wieliczka and the... BOOOO! Right, so i guess you know my feelings on the issue. First the good, it was a MASSIVE salt mine and interesting to see, there is a section where you can go into a tunnel and take a few stabs at the wall with a big pick and take some salt home. The surrounding area was also pretty. There... More

The NEW Salt Cathedral is cool. It has the 10 stations of the cross and GIANT Bas relief Cross. BUT! All the cool statues and the altar are from the original one. More

This so-called cathedral is an absolute desecration. There is nothing reverent about this place. As you first walk in, there are flashing lights of flags of various countries on the ceiling. You then proceed to the stations of the cross where many people are taking cheesy photos in front of the rock crosses. In the "cathedral" area, one woman crawled... More

I have to congratulate the creativity of Colombians to make an excellent use of a mine and turn it into a world class attraction. How many opportunities are out there to enter and tour a mine? The tour guide will explain you about the Stations of the Cross and the Cathedral 180mts deep, where many people get married (especially well-off... More

We were staying in Bogota on a business trip and decided to take a few hours out of our Sunday to see the salt mines and salt cathedral in Zipaquira. The taxi driver (who waited while we were there) said that the light Sunday traffic allowed us to get there in 45 minutes rather than the usual 90 minutes! The... More

I was a bit surprised that the entrance fee was 20.000 pesos minimum ! No discount for students available. The cathedral itself is pretty good because it's so big but there's not much to see within...just crosses and souvenir shops. The 3D 15 minutes movie is very bad and will actually give you a headache. If you're a religious person... More

A wonderful trip with Bogotravel tours and their driver Victor and guide Fernando Morales. Besides providing detailed information about the salt mine and cathedral, Fernando was great in talking about music and recognizing different Latin American instruments and songs. He made the tour very interactive and educational and fun at the same time. More
