I was on my way back to Chennai from Chidambaram, when I saw this Place's sign board, we have heard from many that this place is incredible, of course they were right! But you have to visit it to believe it. Even now its hard to believe that such an amazing place exists at just 200 kms from Chennai. A... More

Pichavaram is the world's second largest mangrove forest, after The Sunderbans. The forest is a nice getaway a few hours drive from Chennai along the ECR road. The experience of rowing between the the mangrove trees is a pleasant experience. There are two options - motor boat and row boat, with the row boat offering closer approach to the trees... More

This is a must see for every one who is interested to see world 2nd largest mangrove forest. Motor boat and rowing boat both are available. Nice arrangement by TN Govt. An experience will for life long. We enjoyed and learn a lot.

Visit this place early in morning so that you can enjoy it without worrying about sun. The place is easy to find using GPS. Its advisable to take motor boat as it would make your trip short and easy. Motor boat trip duration is around 1 hour. Boat guy will ask for 400 extra if you want to venture deep... More

This is a rare spot - a mangrove forest that is still pristine. The boating arrangements run by the Tamil Nadu Government are good but the toilets are awful. There are no restaurants nearby. But the beauty of the place makes it five star.

We went to the Pichavaram mangrove Forest as soon as they opened at around 8.00 am and I think because of that the experience was wonderful because there were no crowds. Our boatman was really well informed and told us about the various flora and fauna found in the Mangroves. He also added in a few snippets about film shootings... More

Pichavaram is a small village with this unique mangrove forest. The only bus connectivity with this village is from Chidambaram. How to go(by public bus): From Pondy: Take a bus to Chidambaram, around 70 km, 1.5 hrs. From Chidamabaram to to Pichavaram around 15 km, 30 min, buses leave almost every 30 min. From Chennai: Take a night bus to... More

We (4 people) took a taxi (dzire) from Chennai to Chidambaram and Pichavaram, left in the morning at 0530 hrs and reached Pichavaram at 1215 hrs. We took a row boat for 2 hrs, 2 bottles of water from nearby restaurant and started off. The mangrove forest is amazing and very scenic. At many places our jaws literally dropped at... More
