We took a boat ride for a family of 4 into the forest, paid around 400 for an hour. The boat driver was kind enough to take us deep into the forest. The ride is one of a kind experience and is worth every penny. You can also see fishermen catching shrimps. Facilities are good including the toilets. Good maintenance... More

It is situated about 15km from the Chidambaram town of Tamil Nadu. Cabs can be booked from Chidambaram. Pichavaram has boating facilities through a beautiful growth of mangrove forest where you can find the aquatic life and land animals. It can be a good place for bird view. Best to go in a day with moderate temperature.

15 Kms from Chidambaram. This place is awesome. Must visit and take the boating for Rs.1100. Pay the rower extra Rs.400 and he will take you to the real mangroves.

One of the two mangrove forests in India but the largest in south India. Carry caps, water, and some light eating stuff. Nothing is available even in the Tamilnadu tourism hotel except cool drinks and refreshments. It is hot unless you start the boating by 8 AM or have it after 4 PM. The water depth is only around 2... Scenic backwaters interspersed with mangrove forest, a treat to those who love nature. If you are not hesitant to enter the water, it is a visit you are likely remember. With an array of boats at nominal charges, you are likely to enjoy your trip within the forest. Better to go for a non-mechanized boat as you can travel freely... More

Pitchavaram Backwaters is a popular picnic spot, which is around 16 km from Chidambaram. The 11,000 hectares of backwater exploration is set against the backdrop of 3000 acres of mangrove forests. There are several channels and creeks at this backwater that are suitable for boating and other water sports. Some of the rare species that can be seen in the... More
