Visited the Museum during our stay in Ardesier as this was the reason we came, fortunately for us the weekend we came was the weekend of the Celebration of the Centuries at Fort George, there were lots of enactments and entertainment of all sorts, including aerobatics and fly past's by a SE Bi-plane and a WW2 Dakota. The museum was... More

If you are visiting Inverness, Fort George is just a 10 minute drive to the east and well worth it. The historical value in this fort is tremendous. The Museum is most definitely my favorite of the entire day. The Royal Highlanders, and other military groups are displayed with great care. The uniforms and detail is great, the battles and... More

This is a huge fort, still used by the Highlanders. There is a gift shop where tickets are purchased and maps and guides are provided. The fort covers a huge area and there are rooms, museums, ramparts and the chapel, containing the only stained glass window with a bagpipe playing angel. From the ramparts you can view the dolphins in... More

We were very impressed by the size and shape of this fort. It is located perfectly to control the bay. You can stroll around and even see some dolphins playing around in the Moray Firth, a live show on its own. I was also moved by the dog churchyard.

Not quite up there with the IWM but the impresive ammount of history on display, is definately worth a look. With all the medals and records of gallantry, its quite humbling. Being set in the imposing walls and ramparts and immaculately presented grounds of Fort George makes it even more worthy of a visit.
