The domes were built into the rock and it was antient but they had all those functions for a house and they formed a village out of it. We had a great time hiking and it took toughly an hour to get to the top. You don't want to miss being on the top because the scene was so astonishing!... More

We travelled most of the way to the cliff houses by public transport from Beijing and it took several hours on the 919 and 920 buses. Sometimes it is called the biggest maze of China, 古崖居 is the biggest cave residence was ever discovered in China, probably the world. It was such a mysterious place that even many local Beijingers... This site is easily accessible with well maintained paths, railings, etc. . The dwelling rooms contain horse troughs, niches for alters, and kangs. A kang is a firebox that channels smoke under a bed that is used both for sitting on and for sleeping at night. The smoke keeps the kang warm even in the cold winters. All that remains... More
